72 Cheyenne super 20 I need advice

I just bought my first old truck and got lucky when I found a 1972 Chevy Cheyenne super 20. In good shape.
I am doing the body work now and I will be using this truck to build my garage. Hauling wood and things like that.my question is. I would like to rino line the bed and about three inches up. Would this be a really bad idea or ok. Just look for some opinions

Some will say yes and some will say no. I will only say, if you do a bedliner, do yourself a favor and forget about Rhino-Liner. Consider Line-X. It is miles above that Rhino stuff. Look around for examples of both and I know you will agree. I think I would either do the floor and up about an inch (to seal up the corner) or do all the way up the sides. I've dome it up under the rail or also the inner lip of the rail to 1" around the bend. It protects the entire inside while being hardly noticeable.
I've had Line-X do some very detailed jobs, in colors, with a UV protectant

Welcome- nice find for sure. I agree- Every Line X that I have seen has a consistent texture and doesn't seem to fade or dry out as much. I paid $400 for a GM dealer spray on and was sloppy and faded the first yr.
I vote under the rail.

I paid more than I wanted to for it but title showed only 40k on the miles. It was a yard truck that hauled around campers. Very solid. But paid $4700. Has AC. Disk front breaks and a 400 big block with terbo 400 trans.

My favorite color combo! But we need more pictures! Personally I wouldn't line the box. I would just use it as a truck, that way if you ever decide to restore it, you won't have to remove the line-x. Did you consider buying a thick rubber mat and cutting it to fit? Or maybe a company already makes one that fits.

I will post better and more pics soon. I am going to keep it the same color and restore it after I get my garage built. That's why I was concerned about the bed liner was not sure if it would hurt the value much. Not that I am ever going to sell it. I just did not want to trap water under a removable liner. But a rubber mat Is easy to remove

I see some expense in your future. Your A/C compressor is gone and I don't se the brackets either. Big Block A/C bracketst are expensive to buy and are not reproduced, I've seen people ask 5/600.00 for a set on this site in the for sale section. I see a lot of this and wonder why people just don't unhook the belt from the compressor and leave it alone. I have passed on quite a few deals over the years because of missing A/C stuff.

Nice truck. Definitely needs a fan shroud for functionality and safety. I've got a roll in bed liner on my truck and like it. I'm able to take my chairs to cruise in's and do light hauling without worrying about scratching the paint. C-20's were made for working and hauling, use it.

Nice truck to start with..congrats! Love the color Some white spray paint, wheel covers or caps would fresh it up quick.
I used black trim paint from Eastwood , sprayed in a cup, used a very small paint brush to touch up the upper side trim. The ochre original paint should buff out pretty good. Enjoy!

here are some pictures of the floor. do you think its repairable or easier to just replace it. not sure if you can see the sag by the 5th wheel in the pics.. im going the remove the hitch. the front of the floor is good

(Thoughts + function) I would definitely line the bed up the bed sides an on top of the rails not only does it look neat it will protect it from getting beat up an any one that works in a trade where there truck bed constantly being used knows that not every time you put stuff in the back is from the rear especially stuff in the front of bed (ex: cement bucket) you'll notice your rails getting scratched then rusty an in less you don't care about that or want to do touch up on rails all the time it would be a good investment to line it . look for a quality roll on bed line with Kevlar chips for added strength an really get it on their good ... Just make sure you prep bed real good cause nothin sucks more the it coming off due to bad bondage from dirty or real smooth surface where it has nothing to grab at when you dish out $250 plus

Line X beats Rhino. But, original and a little crusty perhaps beats any bed liner. You have the perfect bed to be able to not worry about scratching it. A nice place to be when you're getting ready to haul stuff like it was made for in the first place. I'd leave it just like it is. If you MUST line it, consider having it tinted and, whatever you do, don't bother doing it if the bed is all dented up/not straight. Just looks not so good. Personally, I'd haul what you need, your bed is already broken in, so you can do so without worries - but you will also leave open the option to restore this nice truck someday and you'll be glad u didn't line it.

After seeing condition of bed, I'd take Jockos advice. If you don't like the look of rust just spray with flat black rustoleum. That's what I'm doing to mine next. The PO painted my bed but didn't remove must corrosion or any dents. I sprayed with Plasti Dip, but doesn't wear well. Future plans are a wood bed.

If you want to do any touch up, I've had perfect success with Automotive Touch up, Ochre 511. $20 bucks a can but simple, clear coat is $8 bucks.

I used to paint my dash. Didn't paint my ashtray right away but you couldn't tell the difference from the original paint.

A suggestion, get the cowl inserts to keep the leaves and debris out...prevents the rusts. Nice not having leaves and pollen blowing in thru the vents You can buy ones you can paint, mine are stainless.

Just re read my post - should have said pollen debris. Maybe a new product I should patent , add hepa filters to cowl vents
