4speed to 3speed questions
Is there anyone that has switched from a four speed on the floor, to a three speed? I just did that and need help with the reverse lights and brake lights. The wiring was on the old tranny and now that I have a three speed it doesnt allow for it, I assume b/c in 68 where I got the tranny, it is mounted on the column. So what do I have to do to get these working again? Thanks if you have any help.....

Are you talking about a three speed auto? If so yes it's on the column, Manual 3 spd I believe was also mounted on trans. I pulled a 3spd column out of my truck and don't remember any BU switches there. As far as Brake lights these are usually mounted up under dash by brake pedal Assembly..

The brake lights are turned on by a switch at the top of the brake pedal. When you push the brake, the button on the switch will extend out and turn your brake lights on. When the brake is released the button will push in and turn the lights off. You should have a switch by your shifter that will work in the same way, but the button will be pushed in.

Sorry about not being clear. I had a 4 speed manual, and went to a 3 speed manual also. The brake light I can do, what about my reverse lights?

If there is only one wire down by the trans for the backup lights it should be ground, you should have 2 wires to the swtich if this being the case one will be grounded and then to switch the other will be the ground to the backup lights.
or there should be a hot wire to switch and other wire from switch should go to backup lights . |

If you went to three on the tree then the switch is on the column. ( on the 71-2's, not sure on the 67-70). It is located similar to the neutral safety switch on the automatics. I have a switch if you need a pic of one, let me know.
