Re: Air breather
If I remember right, the small ring has a roll on it, you have to unroll it to get it apart. I can not remember about the outer ring, old timers folly. Good luck. Randy

Re: Air breather
If you're not too concerned with an original look, you might check into a paper element air cleaner. They filter way better than the oil bath cleaners.

Thanks Randy, I got it a part. The small inner ring and the outter ring I had to pry them flat. When I go back I'll make the upper ring a gasket fit with a rubber gasket for edges to seal it. It will make changing it easy. I got it all cleaned up and ready to wire wheel it to paint it after I find a filter to fit it and mock it up in the cart. I can use a 6.5" to 7" round filter total measurement if anybody knows of one.

Re: Air breather
I've never changed one over to a paper filter but I'd check to see if the filter books at the parts house have a listing by size.
K&N has a chart that you can find a filter by size and you might be able to cross reference that number to a Wix or other filter. http://www.knfilters.com/search/univ2.aspx?id=S0001 Not that a K&N wouldn't work great.

Re: Air breather
After looking at the filters at O Reilly's I think I'm going to get a bunch of AC filter material and stick in it like the old oil bath filter stuff.
I looked at a bunch of filter the other day and the openings in the housing are going to be inside the filter instead of outside. I'm going to try the filter material and keep looking though. A round filter will have to be so small it want do much good I don't think. I could close off part of the openings I guess maybe. I may leave this part out of it also.
