Re: 6000 rpm tach anyone...
The truck will eventually have a destroked LS2 with solid lifters and shaft rockers so it'll do 8k easily. Got the 120 mph speedo covered too, and then some! I photoshopped a 160 mph speedo and sent it to Jason at Greenback so he could make the artwork and have his screen printing guy make a lens. Still waiting to get it back, this is just the photoshopped pic.

Re: 6000 rpm tach anyone...
Well, I got it installed. Here's a pic. It took a lot of head scratching and figuring, but it's in. Now to finish the gauge cluster, just about there.
I also replaced the ammeter with a voltmeter, that I read from RoyL here, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=443318 , changed the Tand'm Lock light to a Park Brake light for a future modification from jocko that I read about here, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=419932 , did some restoring on the cluster that I read about from the astronaut here, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=5806390 . Didn't do a full restore with new decals, trying to keep it a little worn looking for a daily driver. Maybe I will later when/if I do a full restore. I am trying to attach the file that I got from Persh's web site. I did modify it to make it a 6K RPM tach face that looks similar to factory. If you use it, it will require some trimming. I printed it on some see through labels I got at Staples, Avery Clear Full Sheet Label, product #18665. The first label I could sort of see through, and the numbers that were over the inverted "T" of the factory backing plate showed through. So I painted it the Krylon Jade Green and tried again. I think it looks pretty good for a complete rookie. Hope everything on the gauge cluster works now. |

Re: 6000 rpm tach anyone...
I've been reading up on vinyl waterproof inkjet printing paper.
There's YouTube videos that demonstrate how to make stickers and decals. It appears it wouldn't be that difficult to reface. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 6000 rpm tach anyone...
LostMy 65, the one I used and installed was indeed the 2 inch, P/N 81316. Chevysdominate referenced the original article that he modified and it used a 2 inch tach as well.
Basically, all you use is the guts of the tach, you take it completely apart and use your own blank plate out of your dash and screw the guts to it after slight modification. It fits well. You also end up having to trim down the inner case and the black exterior case to screw on the back. Also, I wish I would have done a little more research on the decal material on Youtube, dang it. I think it would have been much easier to print on a different material, like that vinyl waterproof inkjet printing paper, but it did work out OK. Still like how mine turned out in the end, but did have to paint the blank plate the Jade Green to get it to look right, as I wrote up. |

Re: 6000 rpm tach anyone...
Just picked up this tach for my install, its a no name but its believed to be a Sun tach by all markings on it, a fleabay item broken lens and mount which was fine, seller did say it worked, cost me all of $15.00 so if it dosen`t not much of a loss, its actually a two inch gauge stuffed into a 3.5 inch pod as shown after removal from pod, three wire hookup, hot, ground, and pickup.

Re: 6000 rpm tach anyone...
To revisit an old thread... has any company decided to make a decal set to have a 6000rpm tach?
