Loose steering wheel?
I know I should already know the answer by common sense... But I need to still ask because I am quiet unknowledgable with Chevy.... My steering wheel and colum all original. Still 3 speed and 3 on the tree, BUT, someone took out the OG turn signal arm and installed those crapppy bulky after market turn signals which new doesn't even work -,-.... My question is, my steer wheel wiggles up and down, I'm assuming that it is obviously loose, but I noticed, when I hold it up, my gearrs don't grind when I put into first or reverse gear. I feel like the wheel is going to break when I'm doing a U-turn and I'm turning the wheel and it's just wiggling around -,-..... Does anyone know what the problem is or why it is loose? And if so, how do I got th horn button off and tighten it down, or is that even the answer? Just tighten te bolt down with a impact drill?

Re: Loose steering wheel?
If tightening the wheel doesn't work I'd assume its the column bearings.

Re: Loose steering wheel?
Funny story about a loose steering wheel...back when I was in high school I drove a 63 international truck..on the way to school one morning I went thru a hoop-t-do in the road when the truck went over it the next thing I knew I was sitting there holding nothing but the steering wheel..I immediately slammed it back on the steering shaft,, don't know how I managed to do that but I did..pulled over and popped off the horn button and the steering nut had backed all the way off and was just laying there.....close call..

Re: Loose steering wheel?
I also suspect loose or non-existent bearings. They are famous for that and your shaft may be getting chewed up at the bottom bearing. It's not that big a job to remove and reassemble them with good parts. Check out the vendors LMC or Classic Ind catalogs.
