carb problems
To start:
I have a 1977 Chevrolet C10 with a 250 and a monojet carburetor. Basically, i have to constantly bump up the idle with the idle adjustment screw because it will slowly drop idle speed over time until it dies every time i put in the clutch. I've adjusted the idle mixture screw and the idle speed adjustment and dialed it in, but everytime after 20-30 minutes of driving my idle speed will drop. any suggestions? thanks |

I've been having the same issue with mine, 86 Chevy. I've opted to get a new carb, got tired of adjusting screws every time I drove it. Just ordered the new carb last night, so I'm anxious to get it and to get it installed.

try stretching the springs out a bit so there is more tension.

Idle mixture, idle speed, and just about any adjuster screw on a carb has a spring on it. The spring loads the threads enough to hold adjustment.

I would put a dab of High Tack on the threads. If you don't have any High Tack and don't want to buy it, I'll bet Chinese sweet and sour sauce would work; seriously that stuff is super sticky. I had a carb that wouldn't hold an idle adjustment and that's what I planned to do but never got around to it.

Problem solved! Ended up pulling the screw and putting thread sealer, and ran it in tight to the whole adjustment solenoid thing, so now my idle adjustment is made by turning the solenoid. Works well, and holds idle.
