Where to find 3 speed shifter?
So after a month with this truck and lots of work and inspection, my steering colum and 3 on the tree shifter/linkage are VERY worn out. I own a 63' C10 with what I believe is the original 3 speed tranny, I drive this truck everyday and I don't have the money or the knowledge to replace or rebuild the colum or 3 on the tree linkage. I believe personally that it would be better for me to install a shifter to the floor, yes I know they can be pricey, but I am already sick of my linkage getting stuck or sometimes I can't even find the gears. Sometimes it gets stuck in 3rd gear and when I let go of te clutch at a red light, it stalls and I have to open th hood and pull it out of gear -,- embarassing! Hah.... I've tried adding washers and new cotter pins to stiffen up the linkage where it connects to the tranny, and I installed new bushings up top by the colum, but this truck is just tired. I love the truck though and don't want to get rid of it, I'd rather improve it..... Anyways my question is, where do I find the right Floor shifter for a 1960-1966 3 speed Chevy truck? I went on eBay and all I see is stuff for 70's chevy's, fords and Mopar stuff. I would be upset to buy the wrong style shifter and can't use it.... I'm sure there are people on here that know exactly what I need and lookin for. I know they can get expensive, so if any knows where I can find one at a decent price, please let me know. If you guys have any advice or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Check out this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=412061 They use the Mr. Gasket #7667A and say it works good.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
The only floor shifter I've seen for the original Muncie mc318 is the indy shifter, which I don't have much good to say about. Had one in the late 90s and was a constant headache.
The Hurst mastershift I & II are much better shifters....I currently have one in my 63 with a borg warner t-16. I know they make kits for the Saginaw trans as well, but again....the Indy is the only floor model I'm aware off for that Muncie. I'd really consider a donar column or repair the existing issues over the Indy. The Mr. Gasket 7667A has been discontinued.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
I was going to suggest Hurst. Speedway Motors and the like. Use to walk into Pep Boys for one.
I would say as cost goes, fix what you got. My '74 was 3 on tree... so there are parts available.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
Summit Racing has them, just search Hurst 3speed and they come up. The one that was on my old 3pseed was a Hurst Indy.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
A long time ago I had a 1970 F*rd Maverick with the same problem - a worn and balky column shifter that pissed me off constantly. The car was only 7 years old at the time but it was beat to crap when I bought it. I ignored good advice and put an El Cheapo floor shifter conversion kit on it and it was a mistake that never went away. Well...not until the car did some years later.
I second the advice to fix the column shifter either with a junk yard column or a few choice adjustments. I can tell you that if the column lever selector (the thing in the middle of the mechanism with the two pins) gets lost when you are in gear or sometimes slides between the R-1 and 2-3 actuators, you may be able to get your mojo back by figuring out which actuator got bent and carefully bending it back. This is as much art as science. Good luck to you either way. ...ned.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
Thanks everyone, I believe you are all right about fixing it, after reading the thread about the mr, gasket, I'm gonna try going that route first, I'm gonna hold on to the OG linkage see if I can rebuild it and use it one day, but for now I want to go with the route that will give me the least trouble and will get me to work everyday

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
shot of it in the truck. don't know if anything is missing as there wasn't a motor or tranny in the truck when I got it. Everything I have is in the earlier photo.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
All of the shifters mentioned are for 1967 and up trannys. They are a universal type fit and may require some modification. That being said my truck had mr gasket shifter installed when I bought it. The shifter was very worn out and broken. After comparing different brands, I used a hurst Indy shifter. Seemed to be a little better quality then the others and a little more money . The shifter works great with some minor modifications. Because the shifter is not made for 60-66 trannys the shift arms actually criss cross each other . I solved this by fabricating a longer shift lever that attaches to the trans. The arms are now parallel to each other. Then I made a spacer to move the shifter away from the mounting bracket that attaches to the rear of the trans. Everything lines up and the shifter works great. I'll try to find some photos. Point is, they shifters work well with some mods.

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
That shifter scuderia offered you will work on your truck. In fact it has the correct arms for your tranny.
Look in post #2 at the link. That same shifter is on my 65 in the link. I've used 4 of them over the years. On a 65, 67, 72 and 74 trucks. On the 68 and up saginaw tranny's you use different shifter arms. It's a free shifter. Get it, mod it like I did in the link and you're smiling!! |

Re: Where to find 3 speed shifter?
When I bought my 63 it had a 3 spd. and badly maladjusted aftermkt floor shifter. Took me 50 miles of the 80 mile drive home to learn how to find the gears. Some creative modding and massaging got it to work OK (yeah, involved welding). It came out when I put in a 5 spd. a couple of years ago and just yesterday I left it at the scrap yard. Sorry.
