transmission auto indicator dash
My indicator does not move when using lever. I see strings that should move it, what do this attach to?

Re: transmission auto indicator dash
Mine had the same problem, the cable (string) goes around a guide, and mine snapped off. I used a small piece of tubing and a small washer, and recreated the guide. Washer is a little bit bigger than the tubing, so the washer retains the cable and it rides on the tubing.

Re: transmission auto indicator dash
the string attaches to a clip on the steering column where the shifter is when you ull the shifter down or push it up it allows the indicator to adjust to the corresponding setting

Re: transmission auto indicator dash
Here's the indicator. The little wire hooks on the RHS of the orange slider as shown. The right side of this piece contains a roller. The wire goes over the roller and connects with a screw to the side of the column.
You can buy just the wire separately. The fitting is the end that screws to the column. http://www.classicparts.com/1973-83-...ctinfo/91-472/

Re: transmission auto indicator dash
Okay thanks guys I think I am just going to use a small piece of wire to connect to column. The string is connected to the indicator but the string to the column looks like it broke. I am really getting slow the older I get. It took me 4 hours just to change the passenger fender in my truck and some bolts went in crocked or not at all. I was hoping to get to the interior of truck but time got away from me. I needed a beer break after the fender

Re: transmission auto indicator dash
It's ok. Some of the bolts in the fender probably went in crooked when it was new.

A craft store like hobby lobby, in the jewelry making section, will have the small dia. cable and crimps, you could make your own. Good Luck

Re: transmission auto indicator dash
I made my own out of fine aircraft wire rope and crimps, and it broke in about a year. So I bought the replacement part and it has been fine since, 2+ years.
