Custom Console

I made a new console for my truck that allows me to have a cup holder, see my gauges, and use my a/c controls. I wanted it to have a factory feel to it if at all possible.

I made it out of sheet metal and then used a small amount of filler to smooth and shape it. One of my techs here at work help with the filler work. I attached it to the screws at the a/c controls, but I'm going to have to support it more with a bottom or rear mount.

The cup hold is out of a 03 Jetta and folds up when not used. I still want to be able to carry three people and this will allow it, but the middle person has little leg room. Luckly I won't be sitting in the middle.

I left room in the console for a radio, airbag gauges, or whatever in the future.

Here are some pics. There are more in my link.

Looks Good!! It does kind of have a factory, or era-appopriate look to it. Gives all of us looking for a different way to mount CD players another good idea. Thanks for the pics!!

Nice work simple and clean....Does the bottom heat vent still come out on the bottom it look's like the counsel is up high enough that it should still function..

Great job. I like how you used the original fastener location for no damage to the truck and also the third person has way more room than with my console that comes almost to the front of the bench. I may have to copy your idea.

Very nice, this is something that I may do to my 65. I really didn't want to build one that would take up a whole lot of leg room in the middle if I don't put bucket seats in. Good job!

Broken_down?

I'm not sure I could make one that would be reasonable. I have roughly 50 hours in design, fabrication, and painting. I don't think it would be cost effective at $450. I may take it to my friends sheet metal shop to see how much he can make them for.

jcueckert13

I think it would work with a floor shift. It could be modified to work either way.

That is very very nice work, I want one, I need one, I must have one!! I have some extra gauges to mount and some switches and warning lights and that would be just perfect, I like the way it looks like it should be there. How about selling (or if your feeling generous and want to foster international relations) passing a set of the plans this way? LOL
