Front disc brake issues

I have a 68 SWB. I completely swapped out all the suspension and brakes with a 71 with front disc. My problem is my front brakes always feel like they are applied or dragging. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Front disc brake issues

Maybe the spindle nut is too tight?

As I recall, spindle nut shouldn't be torqued more than 12 foot pounds. Spindle nut should then be backed off and hand-tighten until snug, then install cotter pin.

Re: Front disc brake issues

If I remember correctly if you are using a pre 71 brake/clutch assembly you have to drill a new pushrod connector mounting hole into the brake pedal that is one inch higher than the factory 67-70 location, someone confirm this please.

Re: Front disc brake issues

Before trying to adjust the rod try this. Drive the truck then jack up the front and see if the front brakes are in fact grabbing. Then if so loosen the nuts that hold the master to the booster. i have run into this problem several times before the first time I used a S-10 master on the booster of a Chevelle.[At that time I probably had 40 or so S-10's laying around the yard]Being a tight wad when it comes to certain things I wanted to try it and the front wheels would almost lock up I loosened the mater for some reason and the wheels broke free.
So try to loosen the master and see if it changes. Jim

Re: Front disc brake issues

also... isnt there a pressure valve in the brake system that puts about 2 psi of pressure on the system if you have disc brakes and 10 psi on the system for drums. the wrong valve may be aplying 10 psi rather than 2psi and causing that draging feeling. in some aftermarket systems an adjustable pressure valve is required.
