Re: Well got one finally

Nice truck and great build. So how has the green paint on the body held up so far? I am planning on just fogging my truck with satin hot rod black from Eastwood. I was going to spray it with a gun but your rattle can looks pretty good. On your interior did you paint the doors and the inside of the cab as well?

Thanks. It's holding up well, the only prob was a bird crapped on the hood the day after i painted it which I didn't notice until a few days later and the paint lifted on that spot. It must be because the paint wasn't hard since all the other bird crap since then hasn't damaged it.
I did paint the interior except for the doors, I want to do some work on them first.

Cool, if the motor was in better shape I would seriously consider getting that for it.

Re: Well got one finally

I hear ya, I did see a complete motor for sale last week out of santa rosa and he wanted 200 it was still in the truck and the compression was good. I was going to make him an offer but he sold it within 4 hours. Whats your plans? I just replaced my rod covers they were leaking like crazy and now I have to figure out who can fix my tranny leak.

Re: Well got one finally

Well the immediate plan is to do nothing since my daily driver is about due for its big maintenance including the timing belt, so I'll be spending money on some parts and tools so I can get that out of the way.
After that the ideal thing would be to find a good I6 locally that I can just plop in which I'll call plan A, but if the right V8 comes along I'll plop that in, plan B.
Plan C is a rebuildable core and I would just gear up for my first full rebuild.

Can you see where your tranny leak is coming from?

Re: Well got one finally

The shaft from the shifter that goes into the tranny I think that bushing or gasket is bad.

Re: Well got one finally

I've covered this in some other threads, but to update this one quickly the motor is fixed. New piston and rings just for the bad cylinder along with a lot of hand drill honing. We'll see how it lasts but right now all that crankcase blowby is a thing of the past and it's way peppier, even willing to burn a little rubber now.
I'm encouraged now and will get a couple of other little projects done soon.

Re: Well got one finally

Ok now that its running again the recent updates are:
  • Did some paint work on the doors.
  • Replaced window rollers on pass side, a hammer is your friend.
  • Both door got new felts and window rubber. Vent window still has old stuff but I'm okay with that.
  • Re-adjusted valves, no more tick.
  • Added a temp gauge, two more gauges to go.
  • Added T-Bar bolt things to the valve cover.

Here are a couple of pics, sorry for the super blurry one. Still have to tidy up in the engine bay now that I know I won't have to pull the valve cover again for awhile (knock on wood)

Re: Well got one finally

Forgot to do any updates. Just minor stuff, found some rust that I'm just not in the mood to talk about right now. I'm tempted to make the truck a speedster instead of fixing it

One pic you can see I painted the helmet, and the other pic is the "stereo".
Basically while sitting around one Saturday for some reason I looked at my blue tooth speakers and wondered if they would fit the gauge panel, turns out they fit almost perfectly.
In the truck I only feel right blasting oldies, and oldies coming through those speakers sound pretty good so I guess I will leave them there. I have to get rid of that red tho.

Re: Well got one finally

Thanks!
Salinas seems pretty much the same it's been the whole time I've lived here which is only like a decade. Beats where I was in Los Angeles, that's for sure.
How long since you left the area?

Re: Well got one finally

Thanks for the links, nice looking truck.

I might copy some of that bracing, guess I'm waiting to see it sag a bit first or waiting until I don the other work that bed needs.

Oh ok, not much change since then, a library remodel, more cookie cutter homes and a shopping center, that's about it.

Re: Well got one finally

I'll have to upload the pics, but I cut the springs and got the front down quite a bit. I'm now waiting for my drop shocks to arrive and then I'll lower the rear to level it out a bit.

Re: Well got one finally

Just updating to close out this thread, I sold the truck yesterday!
Project momentum kinda stalled but it was a functional around town errand runner the whole time since my last update, the next guy will continue the improvements.

A couple of hours later I used some of the proceeds to pick up a 72 Ranchero. Still old enough to be cool, but modern enough to keep up with other vehicles on the freeway in a comfortable way.

So long as you're still happy, that's all that matters. Good luck on your new project.
