motivate me !!!

Ok so I want to do my disc brake swap on my 60.
For those who have done this on there 60-62 with torsion bars , how long should it take? Any tips?
I have the spindles, rotors , calipers, hose , bearings etc. as well as upper lower ball joints and outer tie rod.

MOTIVATE me tell me it isn't that hard of a swap

Re: motivate me !!!

The mechanical part should be fairly quick to do, depending on your tooling. About 4-6 hours total. The PITA part is swapping the MC to a dual style and pluming new hard lines.

Sorry if this wasn't motivating but trying to be honest.

Re: motivate me !!!

I have everything for the swap also.
Just haven't got around to it.
Fortunately I already split the lines and installed a dual ms. That was the first upgrade I did as soon as I bought her back.
I don't remember that being a PITA though.
Here's the thread I followed :

Re: motivate me !!!

If a repair task seems daunting to me, I always think about the end game. Get your mind into it. Picture how much nicer it will look, how much better it will perform. Then you also get to tell people that you did it when they ask. Plus, doing it yourself, you get to know your systems intuitively; so if anything breaks or leaks you have a good idea where it would be and how to fix it. Better performance, better style, peace of mind.

Re: motivate me !!!

The only issue I had that stopped me for a while was the lower ball joints. If you go to Autozone, rent a tool to remove the ball joints form the spindle (not a pickle fork!!). I could not for the life of me get it separate and had to cut the ball joint out.

Check out my build and get motivated:

Re: motivate me !!!

Sal.. I'm afraid to say that most of your time will be spent removing the ball joints if your truck has the originals. Big pain punching out the factory rivets!!

My best advice on the rivets, shave the heads off, drill out at least 1/2 the diameter of the rivet most of the way thru and use a air hammer with a punch bit to drive them out.

Hope that helps with the motivation!!

Re: motivate me !!!

thanks guys for the help
one question: Do I have to completely loosen the t bars, or can I just put the frame on jack stands and use my jack on the lower control arm to compress it like a normal coil spring ?

Re: motivate me !!!

Loosen them most of the way and all the tension will be off of them. With the wheels off the ground..

Re: motivate me !!!

I agree with 61_FL_Apache on the rivets. It does make it easier, but it is still a PITA. When I did the disc swap, all I did was put the truck on jack stands, I did not have to loosen the torsion bars. Have Fun...

Re: motivate me !!!

Getting that motivation is the hardest part sometimes. Once my projects get past the " ah, I could have it back together in an hour" point, thats what lights a fire under my butt. If you're close by, I could help if ya need. Im real good at taking other peoples stuff apart! Lol.
Let me know if you need a hand.
