Whats the dif between these Air Filter/Cleaner??
Well when i bought my truck it had this filter on it.
Alot of board members got big ol' ones like this one. Whats the advantages to having bigger or smaller filters. And would a bigger one even fit? Because the threaded bolt that the wing nut spins onto isnt very long at all. Any help is apperciated. |

People say the bigger filters flow more...personally, I've seen tests people have done, and they've said it really doesn't matter what size the filter is, as long as it's one of the High End Cotton Reusable one's (K&N, aFe, Rush, Holley, Accell). Personally, I use the 14"x3" K&N...

I don't think there is any advantage to a oversize filter unless you do dirt track or the likes with your vehicle.
Of course.........it doesn't hurt anything either. The only thing I think when I see a paper filter on a car is the owner doesn't know what going down a dirt road does to their bores and rings. |

I have a 14x6 I ended up using it, wanted to get a 14x4. Summit had them back ordered at the time and had the 14x6 so I got that. If you run a taller filter you need to get a piece of threaded rod (cut to length) to make a stud then use the wing nut or regular nut of the same size. I don't think anything bigger than 14x6 will fit, but mine fits fine.

I personnaly have proved that there is a disadvantage to sucking hot under hood air with open elements like those.
My 75 had a bunch of ping problems. I tried a bunch of things to get rid of these problems. In 75 they uses a air filiter assembly with a small diameter opening that pulled under hood air. I flipped the lid and the problem got better but still had the issue. I then swaped out to a mid 80's snorkle air cleaner assemble with the snorkle to the grill. BIG improvement and the MPG came up . Power came up as well. The problem was lack of fuel because my down shift cable is the wrong one and would not alow full throttle It was starving for fuel. What my informal test proved is the cooler air did help with the ping. So you can run more advance with cooler air and that stads to reason that you can make more power. Right now I run K&N's but my buddy has me about convinced to go with the Redline's. They filter better then the K&N.
