4bbl to 2bbl conversion....
Hello,
I have an '84 GMC 1/2 ton, and am switching to a 2bbl since my 4bbl Rochester Q-Jet badly needs to be rebuilt, and I really would like better economy if possible. I have it mounted already with an adapter plate. My question is, can this be done with the old Model 2bbl Rochester that I have? It came off a '67,and of course there are alot of things that are different. First, there is no place to hook up the 2bbl's vacum advance since I have a newer distributor, and the 2bbl carb has the old barrel style pcv coming out the back, and that's what I need to use for the brake booster's hard line to the carb. Not to mention the detent cable, and throttle linkage. I think I can jury rig those, but this seems to be kind of a pain. Can this be done easily or am I trying to fit a square peg in a round hole? Thanks in advance, (for advice about advance!) Art (Seminole, FL) PS: Thanks for the replies on my grounding/starting problem...I found that the rear ground strap was bad, and I added an extra one too, just for good measure. Now she cranks like a champ. |

Switching from a Q-jet to a 2 barrel will decrease you mileage. Why not just rebuild the Q-jet? It would be simpler to do this than to rig something. I don't rig things, so I wouldn't be much help on that part of it.

Mike is right, i had a 2bbl on my 355 in my 82 C10, i put the 4bbl QJet on it, and the milage increased by a considerable ammount. providing i kept my foot out of it.
