BATTERY CABLE END - Which one is correct for a 70 350 ?
. . . .
After asking SEVERAL people on this website who have low milage, original trucks, what is the correct type of end for the battery cable on a 70 C-10 350 - I've been told spring ring by some and the bolt type by others !!! I haven't seen the assembly manual picture of what was "supposed" to be on these trucks either. Maybe someone can post that page on here. I have saved many pictures of BOTH types on very original looking engines too. Can anybody help clear this up for me, with some PROOF ? . . . . |

Steve, as we talked before, I don't believe the spring type were used on these trucks. I believe these are the factory original ones on my 70 GMC

I'm 100% sure these are the originals from my 69. There's no reason to think the 70s were different since 1971 was first year for side terminals. Positive is top photo. Negative is bottom. They look the same as Joe's.

Joe and Firstowner, do they repro those? I've never seen ones exactly like that. Do they have a bolt on the bottom like in the first pic of the original post?

I don't believe they reproduce any that are a correct match. As I recall, davepl was looking for some. I don't know what he ended up doing.

Re: BATTERY CABLE END - Which one is correct for a 70 350 ?
I don't mean to thread jack but since we're on the subject of batteries and correctness, Would either of you two original truck owners be able to post pictures that clearly show the original paths and connection points of the battery cables? I have a 1970 C/10 with a 307 which needs new cables and terminals. I haven't been able to locate a clear photo. Also, can anyone tell me the correct length and gauge of cable? Here's a pic of what's on the truck now.

The negative cable (partially obscured by the battery strap in the first pic) is routed through a loop on the front A/C bracket to the front exhaust manifold bolt. The positive cable (all other pics) is routed through a loop on the frame, through 2 clips on the oil pan bolts on each side of the engine mounts then to the starter. The last pic is of the starter end of the cable. |

Re: BATTERY CABLE END - Which one is correct for a 70 350 ?
. . . .
I've been searching the internet and can't find anything close to the originals . . . . . . even the NOS ones for other Chevys on eBay aren't an exact match. I guess there isn't much call for the " right ones " for us truck people. Somebody would reproduce them, if they thought they could sell them !!! |

I wasn't doubting you, Joe. With all the original ones you've seen, YOU should know, LOL . . . I just wanted to see if anybody had some old pictures or other proof of the spring-ring ends installed on any of these trucks from the factory. Maybe some more people will put their two cents in and also tell us where we can get some cables similar to these !!! |

Below are pictures that compare the best I could find with my originals. They are excellent quality, reasonably priced and made in the USA. If someone comes up with a source for originals, I'd be interested.

In post 8 I posted a picture of the clips attached with oil pan bolts that hold the positive cable in place. Here is a source for the clips.

Re: BATTERY CABLE END - Which one is correct for a 70 350 ?
Fwiw I have come across hundreds of these trucks over the years and have never seen the spring type used. Not saying they weren't used, maybe different plants had different suppliers? Might want to ask Keith Seymore.

I sent Keith a personal message - hopefully, he'll have time to tell us his thoughts on this subject !!! I ordered a set of the Deka cables, FirstOwner69 recommended - I'll try to remember to tell you all what I think of them when I get them on my truck. |

Re: BATTERY CABLE END - Which one is correct for a 70 350 ?
Thanks for the note; unfortunately I didn't start with GM until 1979 so I have no first hand experience with these particular cables.
There could be supplier differences and/or plant to plant variation, but at this point I'd have to defer to some of the more experienced vehicle owners like Joe and Firstowner. K
