rock autos replacement radiator
has any body used rockautos replacement radiator number CU369 made by spectra premium. the days of copper brass are 99% over. the spectra rad is aluminum with plastic tanks and is supposed to be 100% drop in fit. I ordered one from rockauto,it was 151.00 delivered, auto zone had same rad for 189.00 + tax.
thanks bob

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
There are many people on this forum using that radiator and all seem to be very happy. It is just as good as stock just does not look as cool.

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
OMGosh that means my Advanced Auto radiator is probably plastic and aluminum too. I haven't unboxed it yet.
I'll try and get something real later. |

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
yep I bet its alum/plastic too. when I worked on semi trucks a few years back I noticed the rads was alum/plastic and went over 1 million miles but they took the red lifetime anti freeze made for alum rads.

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
Thats the one I got when I dropped in the bigger engine. mine originally had a 6 cyl in it and the top and bottom saddles were too narrow(for 2 core rad.) so I modified the saddles instead of buying the right ones, everything turned out great. nice fit. I'm happy with the rad. if you already have the 8 cyl. engine it should be a drop in fit..

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
I picked mine up from O'Reilly's a year or so for $130ish, and was stunned.
Damn thing was spot on (minus a few manufacturing tags) to the factory unit I pulled out. All metal and very very well built. 4 core unit.

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
There's no way I'd put a plastic end tanked radiator in my '67. I went with an all aluminum one which is still ugly but not as bad as plastic.

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
For the money I would buy one of these. No plastic at all is the only way to go!

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
Plastic, aluminum, go with what you like. I thought about the aluminum ones till alot of guys were stripping the aluminum threads out where you hook up the trans lines, plus I think the PLASTIC one when painted black looks more original than the boxie tig welded units. just my opinion..

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
Very true Andy, I've researched the different rads and the majority of the reports on the Spectra Premiums were not bad, and so far, fingers crossed, I won't have any problems..

I had the radiator O-Reilly sells in my truck up til a week ago. They replaced it once and it was leaking again so I bought a complete aluminum one for $157.00. No plastic. It fits well in mine with some minor mods on the bottom supports. Here is the link. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=681842

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
I don't want to hijack this thread but I picked up a new CU369 rad this week. I discovered that I'll need the larger retainers as it much thicker then the Spectra CU840 that's currently in the truck. The issue I'm having is that the bottom rad hose comes off the rad at about 45 degrees instead of 90 like the CU840. It looks like the hose might also interfere with the transmission cooling line. Anyone else run into this issue? Do you have a part # for the hose that will work with this setup? Did you have to re-route the tranny line?
In the pictures of the aluminum rads above, one seems to come off at a 90 where the second one is angled up (like my new CU369).

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
My OE radiator is curved upwards. The pics in this thread all appear to angle upwards.
My transmission lines have a double curve to avoid the lower hose neck.

Re: rock autos replacement radiator
Here's the one I'm using. It's a reasonable price all aluminum, two row with 1" tubes. I've been using it in the hot West Texas sun for the last two summers and it now has over 7000mile on it. Oh, and it's made in America by Americans.
