318 Transmissions
Does anyone know if all the 318 chevy 3 speed transmissions have the same output shaft?
Thanks Ron |

Re: 318 Transmissions
are you refering to splines or length? some {trucks} have short tailshafts,{cars} long tail shafts

Re: 318 Transmissions
I learned the hard way that they don't all have the same diameter bearing retainer on the front. The 318 in my truck crapped out, and I bought what I thought was an identical one at a swap meet. Apparently the one I bought was out of a passenger car. The bearing retainer diameter was smaller on the 318 I bought, so it didn't fit tightly into the hole in the bellhousing as it should. It was at least 1/4" smaller.

Re: 318 Transmissions
I read where you can take the one off your transmission and use it on the other one, is that not correct?

Re: 318 Transmissions
Does anyone know what you can use as a intermediate shaft for the cluster gear to be able to install new bearings? It has to be shorter than the original one I believe or you cannot get the cluster gear in.
Thanks Ron |
