LS power steering pump question

I tried searching for the answer but couldn't find it. On my 2001 5.3 i was filling the power steering pump for the first time and it dumped fluid all over the floor. I felt behind the pump (to tight to see in there) and it feels like its missing a drain plug of sorts. Am i correct in this thought and does anyone know the size/pitch if so? Thanks for any need

Re: LS power steering pump question

chances are with that year and being 5.3 it is probably not hydroboost unless it was changed that only adds a second return line so it is not threaded. As far as I know there is only the pressure side and the return side.
The pressure side is a different thread than your original, did you do some swapping on fittings or lines to get it to hook up? If it "dumped" that is probably not the case.

Re: LS power steering pump question

There are 2 (seems to be pressed into body of pump) lines that come off the pump so I assumed the lower one was pressure and the higher one was the return. I never noticed or even look for the threaded open port that the fluid dumped out of.

Re: LS power steering pump question

The threaded one on the back is the pressure line. Sounds like you have a hydroboost pump. You need to cap off the upper return fitting if not running hydroboost.

I found this thread doing a forum search.
I bought a complete power steering and hydroboost system off a 77. I'm doing the Power Steering upgrade first, then Hydroboost later. So your post answers my question I was searching for.
I'll just plug the top one off until I install the hydroboost.
Thanks
