14 bolt 373
Well I picked up a 14 bolt 373 (SF 6 lug) from a pull a part yesterday. Pulled diff cover and found some very small shavings. Had more play than the 12 bolt that I am replacing. Rear end is out of a 88 truck. Not sure of miles had no speedo. I pulled it out thinking I would find some bearings that were shot. No such luck. All bearings look good. Reason I am replacing axle is my 12 bolt is axle tube was broke off (PO) pumpkin and welded back wrong.
1. Can someone tell me if the gears are shot. 2, wrong shims? 3. What needs to be replaced (kit, part #) 4. My 12 bolt yoke won't fit on the 14 bolt. I have read that the 10 bolt yoke will. Or just get conversion joint? 5. The off center pumpkin issue of the semi float 9.5. 1" or so off center. Only gave $100 for the 14 bolt rear end. Try and put it back together or look for another? How hard is it to set up the gears correctly? 72 blazer 700trans 4"lift w35's 350sb Any advise will be greatly appreciated... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 14 bolt 373
Any "used" axle I'd expect the worst and plan on rebuilding everything. Then hopefully work backwards from there. The spider gears in yours are trash. I am assuming the ring gear may look the same??

Re: 14 bolt 373
I'd consider putting a LockRight in it. You can do that work yourself. By it's nature, it puts more lash in the drivetrain, but it's not noticeable in practice.

Re: 14 bolt 373
I have a 12 bolt but I bought everything I needed from Yukon Gear. I replaced everything. Bought everything and had a 4x4 do it all. I just dropped the axle off.

Re: 14 bolt 373
You can buy the spider gears at a drivetrain shop in houston. The r&p look good I would probably install new bearings and spider gears if you are just going to be driving it on the street. Bearing kit about $150 and spider gears $130.

Re: 14 bolt 373
I see lots of the 14 semi floaters at the pnp in san antonio that is a good place to find one I always make a trip there when I go down to visit family. Look for a heavy half ton truck they used the 14 bolt semi floater 6 lugger also not normally used as hard as the 4wd and 3/4 trucks.
