Headers hit the motor mounts

IIRC heddman's have an oval shaped tag and hookers are rectangle.

if you want quality and a GOOD fit you need to step up to the plate and get some from Doug Thorley. those guy know how to make them to fit. you ever seen a 88 E350 4x4 with a fuel injected 460? they have correct headers for them and they fit beautiful

you get what you pay for.. a set of 100.00 headers, ever 200.00 headers are not gonna fit.. 100%.. me I'd have taken the pipe in ? and heated it some and pushed on it with a pota power.. it move it enough and no dimple..
did he ever find out if the crossmember was wrong..

IMHO - I've done a ton of engine swaps over the years and I've always set the engine down 3 degrees. Level is too tall. Never had an issue like that.

i realize this is old thread...but im having same problem

what did you ever do to fix clearance?
didnt look like shimming up tranny would work to me because the pivot point (motor mount) was same distance to header interference... wouldnt change ditance

shim up motor mounts?
diff tubular mount?
grind mount, dimple header?

I built the truck in my profile pic out of about four different trucks i parted over the years. It was an original v8 auto truck but was missing the frame stands and Trans crossmember. I used stock 72 sbc stands in the stock location to install a rebuilt 1973 355 and a stock auto Trans crossmember slid back to install a 700r4. I used a one piece driveshaft from an swb 80's c10. I am running stock ram horn manifolds and a heart throb dual exhaust. I even have GM LT1 style aluminum valve covers and quadrajet with a stock closed air cleaner. I am running an HEI distributor, a comp cam and edelbrock performer intake though. It all went together like it was made for it. (Probably because it was!) The truck has several thousand miles with no issues.

This brings to mind a truck I helped a friend do an engine and 700r4 swap on. Prior to him owning it, someone did a body off frame resto. Black truck with red frame (?). They installed a 350 and th400. They used 3/8 bolts in the engine frame stands and on the trans crossmember they put new longer than original bolts in from the top. They must have done this before mounting the cab as we couldnt get the bolts out as they hit the floorboard. He had to cut the heads off with a sawzall. My buddy pulled the frame stands to clean and paint them. He couldn't get the engine mount bolts to line up. I told him he needed to buy 5/16" bolts for the frame stands to allow some tolerance. He did so and it went back together fine.

I'm not a "purist" by any means. Personally I see no reason to reinvent the wheel. I use aftermarket parts where no original one exists good luck with your struggle.
