Help me identify year and model of my father's Chev Truck!

Hi All,

My father owned this truck from about 1968 - 1971. I've looked around and I can't find a picture on the internet of one exactly like this. My best guess was 1965 C-10 Short Bed but the fender emblem and grill look wrong compared to the pictures I've seen. I also can't find any this utilitarian looking or with these wheel covers (which I guess I don't know are stock)

Can you help me identify the year and model? What engine and transmission? 2x4 or 4x4?

My father customized this truck, I will share that in another thread.

Genuinely appreciate your help! Thanks!!

Looking at the grill and cab style, my guess is a '63. '64-'66 have a different cab (windshield doesn't wrap around and the front pillars are at a forward angle). Looks like a 2WD. No idea on engine as you would need to post engine pics to know.

Awesome, Thanks! is BBW = Big Back Window?

How do you identify it as Custom Cab, is that rare?

Sorry for the newb questions, I did do a search but the common acronym threads didn't have BBW...

BBW = Big Back Window.

The 1962 model was the first year with the more modern looking hood. The grill/headlight bezel was unique to 1962. Custom Cab refers to the chrome trim styling around the cab. 1962 was also the last year for that particular chassis design which was the same from 1960-62.

Did custom cab option include the side trim down the side of the bed, or was that a different option?

Is there a good place to research all the option packages for a 1962?

The FAQ has all the info.

No, side trim was separate from Custom Cab. That truck also has the Custom Chrome (grille/bumper), and may have Custom Comfort (interior trim).

A good place to do some reading is the GM Heritage Center. You can download historical info from the website for free. The archive is a wonderful resource. Try THIS LINK to see the page showing Chevy trucks. The link will take you to a web page and then click on the word SHOW next to the Chevrolet Truck (4th from the top). Then click on your year truck and it will ask you to download the info to your computer. It really is pretty cool stuff and all original from GM.

Re: Help me identify year and model of my father's Chev Truck!

On the frame drivers side under the hood there is a number that "should" match the last numbers on your VIN tag located on the door jamb or top door jamb or rear door jamb depending on the year. Then go here for more info:

I don't know, unfortunately but I suspect my father dropped a V-8 in it when it modified it although no pictures of the engine bay or interior. (He used the customized truck to tow his custom C / Altered class drag car to the track) My guess is either a 327 or a big block although he seemed to favor SBC.
