Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I'm interesting in getting a new wiper motor and switch from this company. Anyone have them and actually used them while driving in the rain? Are they quiet? I want to upgrade my wipers but would like to hear some opinions about them before spending the money.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
russell, i have stock electric wipers in my truk and 20,000 mile on it many miles in the rain.
i use rainx and have never turned my wipers on. one of the cheap re-pop arms blew off in the car wash last yr, i have not replaced it. we drove all day on 2 lane roads in the rain on the 2012 hot rod power tour and i never used my wipers. i'm telling you this because if you have vacuum wipers use rainx, keep it fresh and you will never need wipers.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I've never used Rain-X and it's hard for me to believe that I could get by without wipers at all, but you do have me thinking. I think I'll buy some and put it on my DD Suburban and see how it works.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I have newport wipers. they were a direct bolt in on my 57, although it does not rain much here they work when you turn them on every time. flip flop, flip flop.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I have them and IMO worth the money.
They are a little quieter but the arms and blades work like a champ |

i usually apply rainx to the dd when i'm headed out on a trip. i tried the rainx washer fluid in the dd, it doesn't work near as well as the little yellow bottle. to the point of i thought it was worthless... in 20 yrs i've maybe bought 3 or 4 little yellow bottles of rainx, a little goes a long way. i have never used the wipers on my 58 truk, but i also apply the rainx every 2 or 3 weeks to keep it fresh. i never drive 58 truk in the snow because that means salt on the roads

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I took everyone advice and got some rainx for the windshield and also the washer fluid additive. I put it on my Suburban to see how it works. I also ordered a Newport wiper setup and the switch with intermittent position and washer control, plus a new set of arms that I hope will be better than the first set I got (not from them). I have an S10 washer pump and reservoir that I will install.
My reason for bringing the wiper topic up is, I just got a Retro Sound radio for my truck that I will be installing soon, and my odometer has stopped turning, although the speedo still works fine. I will have to take the center part of my A/C out of the way to get to the radio and decided to do the windshield wiper replacement and speedometer repair while I have the dash apart. I wanted to hear some opinions about New Port before I spent the money. |

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I've got one on my 50 and it works fine, have used them in some real heavy rain and they work great. I have some aluminum arms on minet and they hold good pressure on the blades. I also use RainX and have for years...Jim

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I have the newport wiper motor too, (AD style tho) a quality product that bolts right in & works good. I'm also a Rain-X fan. You wont need your wipers except when going real slow.. (why would ya do that?)

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
Russell, I have used newport on several builds and never any problems, Having said that
as it's been stated several times above, I also use rainex and very seldom use the wipers.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
Since my last post I have received my New Port wiper motor, switch, and two new arms. I also put Rainx on my Suburban but haven't driven it in the rain yet to try it out. I'm in the middle of upgrading my suspension on my truck so haven't installed the wipers either but based on everyone's comments I expect that I'll be pleased with them.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I installed the wipers and radio about a year ago but haven't driven it in the rain so don't have an opinion on them yet. Due to the health problems I've had this year I've barely driven my truck at all.

Re: Anyone using Newport Engineering wipers?
I can't tell you about the wipers but I had the pleasure of camping? beside Bob at the KOA in Pomona during the LA roadster show a few years ago. We had a great time with a little conversation, a little beverage and a little music.(he played the dobro and I play a little guitar) Just from my experience I would say he would back up anything he sells and I would trust his quality. Unfortunately I had already purchased electric wipers for my 55. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.
