Just a few things, tonight.
For starters, Merry Christmas to all. This board has been a source of knowledge, friendship, and inspiration for a long time and I appreciate all the help and advice I've gotten over the years (even if it was directed to other people).
I just so happened to take a big step forward recently; I picked up a used TBI unit for less than $50 recently - still need to source some vital components to this makeover (distibutor, harness, sort out what PCM I am going to use, etc.) but I hope to tackle this retrofit on my 84 after the holidays. I've searched some threads made by others and found a wealth of advice, but I had a few general questions I didn't quickly find an answer to; Is there a good source for a "bare bones" TBI harness at a decent price, or am I better off searching the local JY? When searching for PCMs, if I try to use a factory, is there anything I need to keep an eye out for? As in, desirable part numbers vs. avoid these like the plague? This may be a lesser concern, depending how my finances look after the holidays, because I've been eyeing a decent, low-cost alternative for some time now and will likely pull the trigger and go that route in the future. I've sourced an adapter to bolt TBI to a QJet manifold, but are there any known issues with linkage? I can't seem to find anything outright claiming any issue hooking up the 1984 linkage to a TBI. Surely, the devil is in the details. Thanks, in advance. You guys are great.

Re: Just a few things, tonight.
The 7747 ECM is the one you will want; it is the one in most GM trucks from 87-92. On the retrofit I did into my old '74, I used a harness from www.fuelinjectionconnection.com. It is pretty reasonably priced (less than $250) and is a nice harness. I used the 2PRS VSS from Stealth Conversions, and an '87 TBI tank and sender with In tank pump. I think I may have a lot of the parts you will be looking for sitting around if you get to D/FW often. It is not a terribly bad swap.

Re: Just a few things, tonight.
I have a TBI harness and ECM out of a 1987 chevy pickup if you need one...I am actually parting out a 87 so it has 16 gallon tanks and senders too. I even have a factory TBI 454 throttle body to quadrajet adapter.

Re: Just a few things, tonight.
I'll send you a shout, Jonboy. My in-laws are in the D/FW area, so we head that way pretty often. I'm sure I'll run into questions along the way, it's the nature of this kind of swap.
And 86454k30, that would be a huge step forward. I don't mind hitting JY's but I have a lot of other obligations to consider, too. I'll shoot a PM your way.
