Crap...turn signals are really oem backup lights..?
As some of you may have read recently, I've pulled my 60 chevy k10 out of storage since 1994 or so and am now reading and posting on this site for hours each day. The truck has not changed since the early 70's, changes made in the 60's I have little to no info on...and I am learning some things are not actually oem. Tonight I just realized something else.
These running lights that have been on the truck since at least 1970 look like the dealer installed reverse light bases with a cadillac like lens. The bases however have an additional mount that what I have seen the original reverse lights do not have. Can anyone ID these? I'll take a closer look at them this week, perhaps remove one to look for casting numbers. I just want to see if anyone else can i.d. them, or have seen these used before. I really like them, but again...I've seen them on it for 45 yrs. And here I thought all along the one just had chemical get on it...or faded from something else. not. So are the brake lights original...and what about the reflectors? |

I can't help you on the fender mounted lights. The lower lights may not be the originals but are in the correct location and have the original style mounting brackets.

Thank you, and yes...the lower lights I changed out after I was rear ended but kept the originals. I just wasnt sure if that was where they all were mounted. Did they come with the reflectors as well?

Ok....could you be more specific? Obviously the wheels, steering, radio, seat, engine, front and rear are 67's. I'd like to know...like I said, it hasnt changed since the early 70's and I was just a kid then. Its first 10 yrs has had changes done to it by family, but my uncle is not around to tell me what all he did.

The is a whole lot of aftermarket lens/light kits that have/are used. Can you get a serial number off the lenses? Maybe google them to see what you com up with. I think moist of your taillights are something other that stock GM, just some aftermarket stuff some one added as replacements.

Re: Crap...turn signals are really oem backup lights..?
Thanks Bill...I was planning on doing that today. I know the lower pair are not original, when I was rear ended by someone driving 50mph while stopped both lenses were cracked, the housing on the right was ruined. I replaced them both at that time but they could have been aftermarket prior to that too.
Interesting fact on that topic however...after that wreck there was an investigation as the driver claimed I didnt have my lights on (it was early morning). The bulbs were taken to a lab and they checked how much bend, if any, was in the filament. When the lights are on and red hot then suddenly shocked by an impact they will contort or bend away from the direction of impact, and then cool in that shape. If the lights are off they wont be affected. Yup....mine were bent up pretty good. I had asked on another thread but havent heard back..anyone know what the holes are above the center of the bumper and below the tailgate? |

License and its light bolt onto a bracket that bolts onto upper of stock rear bumper. The fenders did not come with ANYTHING on them--until 1966. 1966 was 1st and only year for backup lights "dimpled" into the fender. (good way to quickly tell stock '66 from other years) Backup lights on earlier years were bolted thru a bracket that was extended from and secured by the same bolts attaching the tailgate chains. See link provided for pic of both brackets--license plate and back-up lights. >> http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=116 << HTH, Sam Last edited by luvbowties; 12-21-2015 at 03:08 PM. I had some crazy wiring when I bought it I wound up turning the non function back up lights as turn signals. Looks like your tail lights

Re: Crap...turn signals are really oem backup lights..?
Those round taillights are turn signal markers that are from a motorcycle. Still available in plastic. Aftermarket Harley shop. WWW.Customchrome.com 2015 catalog page 4.31 If no luck local we are a CCI dealer. Side note bike mirrors are great looking in some applications.
