Headers vs Camaro manifolds

I have been thinking about getting some headers for my truck. It currently has Camaro manifolds on it. I've been told that the Camaro manifolds flow great and don't really need headers. Anybody know how true this is? Been wanted block huggers or 3/4 length ones since my truck is low and I know long tubes will drag on da road.

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

Camaro guys take off their manifolds to buy headers (thats how the Camaro manifolds end up on CL for us to buy)...but that should also tell you a little bit.

They do flow well, but they won't outflow midtube or longtube headers. I'd take the camaro manifolds over other more restrictive option, but if you have a budget for headers (or a build making enough power to really need the flow) then they are a must do.

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

i am just doing my next ls install on a 71 c10. I used the sheet metal cpp stands with stokar ls adapters. Pacesetter f body ls longtubes fit with plenty of space. very close on the starter but not touching. I use this setup as much as possible.
headers should outperform stock manifolds(Long tubes or mids)
good luck either way.

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

I used the Schoenfeld long tube headers and have no problem with them being to low. They don't hang down below the frame.

it is STOKAR
here is an ebay link.

hope its okay to post. I would imagine any adjustable adapter would work.
I don see why it wouldnt work on a 66 c10

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

I would just go for the more affordable ones. Remember you still have to buy bolts and factory 3 bolt Chevelle style factory rubber mounts. No, they don't transfer vibration to the frame and make noise. If your engine vibrates that much, you have mechanical engine problems.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Billet-Engin...tWHfk2&vxp=mtr

These eliminate the stupid multiple pieces and wear prone rubber mounts. I have used these on multiple swaps.

Or make your own. The templates can be found on google images.

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

here is some pics. clears the frame easily. slight touch on the starter(maybe) other then that the motor is all the way back and clears the cross member with a camaro oil pan by 1 inch
hope this helps some of you.

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

Are pacesetter the only brand of long tubes that work or are these the only set you have tried. I was just wondering for possibly finding a used set of LS f-body headers of other brands. I am running a 1979 front crossmember btw on my 5.3.

Re: Headers vs Camaro manifolds

I would think most f body 1998-2002 would work. I can't say for sure as these were given to me and I ceramic coated them myself.

The headers fit great up top. Do you have any pics of how they fit below. I am looking for a set that keeps the exhaust above the bottom of the frame rails.
