Eastern WA truck on CL (not mine)

I have a 72 K10 longbed, but I don't know much about the older ones, but is this as cool as I think it is?

Yeah it's a decent price point, been for sale for awhile now as well and I think he dropped his price a bit.

Interesting mix of old, new, and unrestored. One piece of advice I offer is that anyone getting this truck should consider splitting the driveshaft into a two piece shaft. That thing probably hits critical speed somewhere around 70 mph. Dropping tire diameter would drop the critical speed accordingly. With a single steel driveshaft that long I'd be looking for a tube measuring around 4.75" diameter.

Factory V8 too, bonus if the engines matches the vin. Nice truck, you can buy a rust bucket non running for half the asking price and still be working to get it running a year from now. Buy it and drive it.

The price is right for a nice rust free truck. You would save alot of money just from not having to do major body panel replacement! Can't find trucks like that around here for that price.

Keep in mind that "has very little to no rust rust" in an advertisement usually means substantial amount of rust.

Nice truck but the scuff and shoot and put it out for sale guys from years past made me a bit spooky of partially "restored" trucks with all too fresh paint on them,

Still it's a nice little pretty well stock cruiser for someone who wants one and doesn't want to go through the whole redo process. Being a stock longbed makes it a bit spendy for most of the prospective buyers in a 200 mile radius though.

That's not the original driveshaft!! GM put two piece shafts in LWB trucks. You can see the mounting bolts for the carrier bearing in one photo.

Chevrolet put a single driveshaft in my '57 3200. I had it shortened for the install of my 700R4.

I changed the rear from the original 3.90 to a Dana 44 with 3.54 gears. That's going to slow the driveshaft down some. My tires are close in diameter to the originals as well.

Seems fine at 70 mph. I doubt if I'll drive it faster than that either.

On that truck you can see the bolts where the center support was with the 2 piece drive shaft along with the tag on the driveshaft from the driveshaft shop.

Good/bad I have no idea as a lot of newer trucks run some pretty long driveshafts.

Bolts for center support are circled.

Prop shaft size and tube diameter determine critical "pretzel maker" speed. Long driveshaft is ok if it's right diameter and spinning below critical speed. Change 3.90 gear to 2.90 and long version above will go to 100+ mph. Two piece driveshaft allows smaller diameter tube and is generally less likely to suffer from torsional issues. Not that most long driveshafts have a problem, it's just a preference of mine.

Mine had a 3spd manual.

My 3200 has an 89" bed. The OP's truck might be a '97".
I didn't think there was a wheelbase difference in the two but not sure.

I'm not real familiar with the 89" bed. GM Heritage Center info shows three lengths:

Model: WB: Available Pickup Bed Length:
3104 114" 78"
3204 123" 98"
3604 123" 98"
3804 135" 108"

The 89" step bed must have been available as a specialty build? Regardless, the chart allows WB comparison.
