48 swing handle sags
Does anyone know what springs are involved on a 48 Door handle, to keep it from sagging? And are they available? Is it this one?

Re: 48 swing handle sags
I thought that was designed so it would give the push button brigade something to point at at truck shows.
Truth is that I never made a study of it when I had door handles on my truck between 1973 and 81 and since 81 it hasn't had outside door handles nor stock latches. I think that is the right spring that goes in the latch to return the handle but am not positive. One thing you want to make sure of when you pull the handle out to get the latch out is that the square shank on the handle is straight and not twisted. I've seen a lot of twisted ones on trucks or doors that I have had. That is probably due to most of my stuff having come off farm trucks and the farm workers around here are pretty rough on stuff if it doesn't work smoothly.

Re: 48 swing handle sags
As mr48chev says check the shaft of the handle to be sure it is not twisted.
If you are using an original handle check to see if there is any wear on the square shank that fits into the square hole in the latch. If it is worn in that are it will sag no matter how good the spring is. Also check the square hole in the latch for wear . If it is worn in that are it will also sag. Also check the square hole in the latch to see if it is setting level at rest. The latch basically controls the level of the handle . Not sure if you using repo or original latches and or door handle. I have heard ( not seen ) the tolerance between the square hole in the latch and the square hole in the handle is large which can result in sag. One customer said he added a little weld to the square shank and then ground down to tighten things up at the correct angle. Good luck . Last edited by paulspickupparts; 01-10-2016 at 01:51 PM. Re: 48 swing handle sags
That is the spring that fixed the floppy handle on my 50. Got them from Jim Carter
