dash vent installation problem

Im having a slight problem getting my dash vent to sit flush in the dash. I took it out because the defrost hose wont go over it. The little "tit" on the side wont drop down into the dash. I tried turning the vent to no avail. Am I missing something simple? It came out fairly easy, so it should go back in the same way.

There is a slot in the opening in the dash the tit lines up with. I lines up the vent to get it to face the correct direction. If you look down in the hole you can see it.

Thanks PG. I saw that but for some reason it still wont dtop in. I will check it again Monday on my day off.

Just got thru doing this to mine. I tried putting the hose on then installing the assembly through the dash, that didn't work out. I had to put the vents back in then install the hoses under the dash. It was a pain in the a$$, they don't give you much room to work under there! Joseph

Thats for sure. I cant get the hose to "stretch" over the vent

If it's cloth and wire hose, snip the cloth about a 1/4" or so at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. This will get it over the vent and on its way into position. Try turning it the opposite direction of the coil wire so the wire is trying to open instead of constrict. And throw a few bucks in the swear jar when you're done.

Thanks ACK. I already put a $20 in the jar fir future "issues" lol. My hose is the plastic type. Should I do the same cuts with it?

Plastic isn't going to have the same give as cloth and wire hose. If the inner and outer diameters are very close, I would give it a try and use a little lube, like water or spit to help finesse them on. Don't use too heavy of a hand or the vent tabs might break, in fact, I would do a dry run with the hoses and vents out of the the dash to see if they'll cooperate.

I pulled the vent yesterday so will try it later when it warms up.
