Best seat for a short guy
I see all these posts about choosing the best seat for tall guys, but what about those of us who are vertically challenged? I'm 5'7, and I'd really like to be able to see over the steering wheel of my k20 when it's complete. Keeping the stock vinyl bench would be preferable, but is it comfortable for someone my height? What are my options? (bench/split bench seats only please, not interested in buckets) Thanks!

Re: Best seat for a short guy
Keep the stock seat and have it reupholstered, and ask them to add more foam. If the steering wheel ends up too close to your legs, a smaller diameter wheel will fix that.

Re: Best seat for a short guy
If your not aware chevy came up with 2 different bench seat types, well, 4 if you include the forward folding back rest that was discontinued about 69.
On the bottom there is a spring seat and a full foam seat, the way to tell is to look under the seat, if the metal springs are arched upward running front to back its a spring seat and it has a thin foam cover of about 2-3", if the springs go straight across the bottom frame (not really springs) then its a full foam seat. The seat foams will break down over time, the foam on a spring seat is not reproduced so ya have to find some foam at an upholstery place, foams come in different densitys so try and match the stock, its kinda a crap shoot. if you add thickness then you will have to get a custom made seat cover. The full foam is reproduced, ether chinese junk or a USA quality full foam seat cushion from from Classic industrys, the new foam will tend to raise you up a little. They are pricy tho and you have to go thru a part supplier to buy the foam, someone like Truckseats here on the forum can get you both foam and cover, so can other suppliers. If you don't have a full foam seat you could find one and go that route, there was a build i was reading here where a guy was happy with his old full foam seat but he replaced the foam and cover like i described above and he said it raised him too much, he was well over 6' and his head was hitting the celing. Guess i could add, I'm 5'8' and i have no trouble with vision in my truck.

Re: Best seat for a short guy
I'm 5'10" and the stock bench seat makes me sit up fairly high and the seat is pushed all the way back. I think a stock bench seat would be perfect for your height. Just move it up a bit. I find the sock bench to be posturepedic and comfortable.

Re: Best seat for a short guy
I'm probably 5'9" now and when a factory seat is healthy all is good. I keep the seat all the way back, too. If it sags due to bad springs I am looking right at the steering wheel. Drives me crazy! Tilt wheel fixes that. I fit just fine between a healthy full foam seat and tilt dropped lowest. I've had extra foam added to standard seats. Those aren't reproduced and I always have those covers made at my local upholstery shop. If none of this is enough, you could space the seat off the floor. Just be sure to so it right, so it's as strong as original.

Re: Best seat for a short guy
Oh you guys are hilarious I actually have one of these already, my friends think they're comedians.
I need new friends... Sounds like the best option is a re-foamed original seat. LMC wants $400+ for new foam!? Yikes.

Re: Best seat for a short guy
I wish you and I could trade problems. Im only 5'10" and my big poofy bench seat makes me feel like I'm a seven footer, and it's all the way back to the cab wall. Still no legroom at all. Mine is a reupholstered stock bench, the PO may have had extra foam added when it was redone.

Re: Best seat for a short guy
Go to your local auto upholstery shop and let them custom build the foam so it fits you just right and then you'll be happier driving it .

I have scat 'pro car' buckets in the truck now and actually had to lower the seat about 2.5" because I couldn't get my legs under the steering wheel, and it's a smaller than stock steering wheel (15").
