Brake swap question?

I have a 12 bolt rear end out of a like 71 c10, my question is, will the drum brakes off of a mid 80's 10 bolt c10 fit on my 12 bolt? I was going to do a disc brake kit but I don't think I am going to be able to since I am installing c clip eliminators. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes, if you also use the mid '80 backing plate. At some point GM started using 2-1/2" deep brake shoes and drums. The wheel mount did not change, the backing plate did. It will run deeper than earlier trucks.

Re: Brake swap question?

for a while brothers was selling a kit with wider shoes so i figured they must have been stock later model ones...got mine off an 85 van...the e brake cable on the rs wrapped around and entered the backing plate from the rear...so i had to weld up that hole and drill a new one in the front...the stamping was symetrical so the spot to drill it was there
