steering column install
I installed my column today. I have the plate on the bottom mounted. I have not put the "U" shaped bracket & rubber on yet. My question is, is this all that holds the column in place? Mine still moves up & down. It is not held tight against the "tooth". What am I missing? I thought the bottom plate held it in place. Am I wrong?
Thanks, Lynn |

Re: steering column install
You need to mount the U-shaped bracket on the left first.

Re: steering column install
The u-shaped clamp holds the column. Also there is a clamp on the column under the hood. The plate you have mounted only holds the gasket in place.

Not sure if you have all pieces for the engine side but here is a picture of how the column mounts on the engine bay firewall. You can upgrade to a Premium account and post a WTB add for it. Also DLTruck1973 sells a lot of misc parts. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=665662

Re: steering column install
It attaches to the brake pedal assembly under the dash.

Re: steering column install
Thanks for the help!!!! I have everything under the hood.
Can't find the "U" bracket anywhere. Can't figure out where it goes either. Could make one if I knew where it goes. Hate to remove the column, might have to. Anyone got a picture of this area??? Lynn |

Re: steering column install
On the Brothers trucks website they have a rubber steering column seal and a foam seal listed. My 72 has the rubber seal but no evidence of a foam seal. Did the 72 have a foam seal? Does the foam seal go inside against the firewall? Any pics of one installed?
With all the rain finally in Nor Cal I am finding all kinds of leaks to fix when I'd rather be working on other stuff! Thanks! |

Re: steering column install
I can get you a picture tomorrow if no one has it for you. I guess I was too late. It goes underneath the column an mounts to the 2 holes where the arrows are.
