Help Identify this '49 GMC Dump Truck
This one caught my attention due to the 8 lug wheels. Old tractor converted maybe? All of the 450 series that I've run across only had 6 lug wheels. I've run seen 5, 6, and 10 lug wheels before. First one I've seen with 8 lugs.

Yep------That would be odd,[on a GMC]. That appears to be '52-54 vintage by the vent windows and I think I see push button door handles. As I recall Fordwas the only one to used 8 bolt wheels on their F-7 and F-8 models like in '48-early '50s .

Re: Help Identify this '49 GMC Dump Truck
Seller just sent me a photo of the ID tag. Serial number is 453 30 8730. No idea on the year but it appears to be a Model 453. #19,500 GVWR.

What are they asking for it?
Don't worry, I'm not in a position to buy it out from under you. |

No worries. I've got my eye on a couple of others that are closer to home.

Re: Help Identify this '49 GMC Dump Truck
30 on the vin# indicates 302 engine , I think that in 1954 they started that code . It could have had the legendary 270 , then that code would be 27 .

That's a beefy little dumper...and Arizona metal! I'd love to own that one. Too bad they put a 235 in it...if that's what it is

Re: Help Identify this '49 GMC Dump Truck
The average dude today wouldn't know the difference in just eyeballing a 6 cylinder engine, where the Chev and GMC were that similar in details. Now, If it were a Canadian truck in some years, they did use a Chev engine instead of GMC . Too bad they don't show an engine picture.

Here is what the seller sent me for photos. Note that someone has welded a reinforcement along the bottom of the frame to beef it up.

Re: Help Identify this '49 GMC Dump Truck
Definite GMC valve cover, and with 2 barrel carburetor it would be normal for a 302 . You know the engine vin # is on the machined section of the block where the distributer mounts, and the first 3 letters indicate the engine displacement .
