73-87 frame differences
Hey guys. I have a 1977 2wd SWB C10. I'm thinking about building up a swb frame to my liking w/ some PB and other suspension parts as a side project. Once it's built up I'd like to swap my current bed/cab/clip over to it. Bottom line will any 73-87 frame work? Any major differences between the years? Cab mounts, dimensions etc. I want to be able to drive my truck and not rip it apart to build it up how I want.

Re: 73-87 frame differences
Your better off using a frame from 73-80. The 81 up frame will work but your going to run into problems.

Re: 73-87 frame differences
The core support mounts are in a different spot and the frame horns are different for sure.

Re: 73-87 frame differences
I believe there are some differences in frame height/thickness over the years as well, I don't know how significant they are.
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf claims the section modulus for a 73 C10 SWB is 3.06 https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf claims the section modulus for a 79 C10 SWB is 3.14 https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf claims the section modulus for an 87 R10 is 3.10 I know I've seen more significant differences for 3/4 tons. And yes, bumper/core support mounts are apparently a little different as well.
