01 van tank/other stuff in '73 C20

Looking at an LQ4/4L80E that's from a crashed 2001 express van (they don't specify what model). They're checking mileage for me. Engine with all accessories, tranny, stock harness, ECU for $1500 which is cheap for here. I can see it run before buying, they'll pull it.

Are there any other parts I should try to get? I was thinking of getting the tank to get fuel pump and sender, but would the tank itself fit?

Oddly enough every source (Napa, OReilly, wikipedia, Edmunds) I'm looking at indicates that the Express van didn't get the LS until the facelift in 2003, and that it would have a Gen1, so they're either horrible at IDing an engine or they have the year wrong or everyone else has the wrong info (unlikely)

The LQ4 didn't make its debut in the vans until 2003.

The parts guys are right.

Either the guys selling it don't know what year it is, or they don't know what engine they have.

It's really easy to spot the difference between a Gen1 and an LS, so for now lets assume it's an LS and they got the year wrong. Hard to miss exhaust port differences... assuming it is an LS I know I need to verify that it's an LQ4 rather than a 4.8 or 5.3, and make sure that the tranny is indeed a 4L80E rather than the 60 (although I don't know how many vans had the 60).

Lets assume it's a 2003 or so, would the tank fit? Is there anything else I should get?

Maybe get the cat pipe, if your in Alameda are you going for a smog legal swap?

Nothing '75 or older requires smog tests.

I recently purchased a 2011 GMC Savana for the drivetrain, but I'm going AWD. The tank is huge, I'd say a good 4-5 ft long, 12-18 inches in height, and about 18 inches wide. Getting the sending/pump unit would be a good idea if you can, then run a late '90s early 2000's 2 door blazer tank in the rear. The transmission I have is a 4l70e, but it has a transfer case hanging off the back.

Having found another ad, I think it's probably a 2007 (or at least I found a listing for a rolled 07 Express, googled the phone number and get the same address as the other ad). Wrecked pretty well:







It could be a different vehicle but it seems pretty likely that it's the same one.

Would a 2007 van be drive by wire? Gen3 or Gen4 engine?

I wonder if I could get the tank to fit somewhere. I thought it was 1987 Blazer (or later Suburban) that people liked to use. Sadly my utility bed is welded on, so it'll be a total PITA to put a tank behind the axle.

If you aren't going for a smog legal swap, I wouldn't bother. Fuel gauge sender is a different ohm range so wouldn't work with your stock fuel without custom work

I'd say it's a drive by wire LM7. Like I said the tank is huge but if your using a c20 with leaf springs it might work length wise but the height will then be the issue.
