New to the forum, Stepside bed questions

I am working on a -64 Stepside in Sweden and i dont have a assembly manual for my truck and I bought it in pieces so I have no idea how stuff where fitted togheter

But maybe someone can help me???

Does any one know the dimensions of the cross sills??
What i have understod the 60-66 are diffrent from earlier years?

Do i put the bedsides directly on the cross sills or should it be wood between the cross sill and bedside?

Would be wonderful if someone has a reassembly picture/describition of that

Yes the wood goes in between the cross sills and the bed sides. The 60-66 are probably different where it connects to the frame. Even the 60-62 will be different then the 63-66 because the rear of the frame on a 60-62 is wider than 63-66. I would take photos for you but my truck is at the paint shop in peaces. Do a smart search. I know there are threads on here that talk about the order of the cross sills and they probably have pictures.

There is differnet answers on this question , some say that there is no "wood"
between bedside-cross sill on 63-66, but on 60-62 there is wood between so that is confusing me a little bit

When I originally took my bed apart and it had what I thought was the original wood. The wood did not go all the way to the wall of the bed but the vary edge (where it has the bump) of the L shaped rail that is welded to the bed side rested on the wood. If some trucks came with no wood in between there, there would be either a vary strange gap or the wood would sit above the L shaped bracket. Which I could not imagine. Also the edge peaces of wood would only be held down on one side and that would not work for vary long. I wish I had a picture.

Here is a photo of a 63. I know it is a little dark but you can see where the L shaped rails are sitting on the wood. The second photo is a 62 and does not have original wood but it also has the wood in between.

The angle strips are spot welded to the bed sides at the factory. There is at least one bolt hole where the fender bolt goes through the angle strip too. I was amazed to find that the bed sides actually rest on the wood bed by the angle strips. However, additional support is supplied by the fender braces, front header panel and rear bed panel under the tailgate. I hope these pics help a little. The last photo shows my initial preparation before welding the angle strips in place.

Cross sills are 72". I am using 2x2 tubing. If you email me at int.execv@gmail.com I will send you a digital manual that has most (if not all) dimensions and anything else you could want. That goes for everyone else too.
