What is this pedal assembly piece?
A few years ago when I was doing disassembly, I tagged this as "fell out of pedal assembly". I don't have any pictures that show where it originally was. This is from my 78 GMC, manual transmission truck.
Anyone know where it goes, or have a good picture of it in place? Thanks

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
looks like the brake light switch activator that allows the switch to operate

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
Thanks Bob. That makes sense. Now I just need to figure out where it mounts in the assembly.

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
Should be first bolt hole up from the pedal.

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
Actually I'm almost positive there are two of those that link the dash and the brake assembly together. The small hole is for a dash bolt and the large hole is for the steering column bolts to go through. They are sandwiched between the brake housing and the steering column support. I'll try to find some pix. I could be wrong but I'm almost positive for once lol

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
Hi, I've started wiring under my dash and still need to figure this one out. I don't believe that the bracket I showed earlier was for the brake light switch. I had another misc. bracket and assuming I got this right, I think that switch is covered. I'm assuming that when the plunger part of the switch is allowed to extend, it closes the circuit so the brake lights come on.

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
So I also had this other switch which after researching I believe is a safety switch to prevent starting the truck unless the clutch is pressed. Mine was missing the "plunger" part, but after a lot of searching I found a new one that looks like a match. But I've searched for hours and haven't found a picture showing where/how it mounts. It was just hanging from the wiring when I disassembled my truck. So I've still got the original random bracket and now a switch to figure out. That small hole in the bracket is maybe 1/8" so looks more like for a spring than a bolt or screw. The large hole in the bracket is roughly the same size as the hole in the switch. I'm not even sure that they go together.
Any further help appreciated. 73Kay - did you ever find any pictures?

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
Never mind the pictures 73kay. I found the mate of this bracket where you said it would be - thanks much! Had to drop the column again, and loosen the brake booster but it slipped right in there. Now just got to figure out this switch!

Re: What is this pedal assembly piece?
Think I've figured out where the neutral safety switch goes. I'd bought what appears to be a copy of a copy of an 82 Factory Assembly Manual. The pictures are pretty good, but you can't read much of the text. Double-sided, the manual is about 5 inches thick. I did find a diagram after going through about 2/3 of it. The little 'j' bracket on the plunger does not hook to something - it snaps into a hole on the clutch pedal. Then the switch mounts in the square hole presumably (above and to the right in the picture). Looks like it needs a special plastic bolt #14013142. Found one online, but it says its for applications from 1979-84. Hope it works. For $10.00 I went ahead and bought it.
