6L80 transmission in a 71 C10
Howdy. Will a 6L80 transmission fit in a 71 C10 or will the trans hump have to be modified? Any info appreciated!

I've got one in mine, with the small hump floor. It takes a little modification. I raised the tunnel up an inch higher and now it clears. With a high hump you'd have no issues.

Mine is a 2 wheel drive so I'm guessing I have low hump. But I don't mind modifying it. Thanks for the info!

You can have a 2 wheel drive and have a high hump trans cover. My 69 Burb is a 2 wheel drive and has a high hump. The trans in the picture is the stock 4-speed. The option code for the trans is M20. I think it just matters what trans came stock in the truck.

I have a 6L80 in my truck with a high hump and everything cleared. You'll need to make a custom linkage to connect the shift lever on the steering column to the lever on the transmission, I used one from Lokar and bent it to fit.

thats surprising that you had to bend your lokar linkage, mine lined up beautifully! I did modify the arm to bolts to the transmission though moving it more to a 9 o'clock position.

Re: 6L80 transmission in a 71 C10
best thing about the 6l80 is when I'm cruising at 80 and the rpms are at 2000. just changed gears to 4:11 now but I'm expecting to be 80 at 2300

I'm guessing that modifying the front crossmember to drop the engine lower is an option also? This will also lower the center of gravity and improve handling.

Re: 6L80 transmission in a 71 C10
Stock, my 71 C10 Longbed had a 350 engine with a Turbo 350 transmission. It has a 92 TPI engine with a 700r4. It's been in there for bout 20 years. Was thinking of picking up a low milage L92 or LS3 and swapping it out. I like the idea of the 6 speed trans. When I get it back from the rear end shop, I'll have to check the hump...

I did notch my crossmember, however that was to fit the enormous oilpan on the gen v engines. this sucker holds 8 quarts
