I have all the dog dish caps and rims .thrte is 16.5 x 9 on side wall of tires...what size tire should i be looking for if wanting to stay with stock rims16.5?

16.5's are extinct.....find a set of Ford E-250 16x7 and ride off in the sunset

Look for Firestone TransForce HT if you want a highway 16.5 or same tire in an AT if you want it to be a little more (but not much) off roady. Size you want is 16.5x9.50 (or, to be exact: 9.50R16.5LT)

There is plenty of 16.5 but you have to go 35" or bigger mud tires. (Doesn't look like that's what you want) Firestone transforce also comes in a 8.75 x 16.5, or used to. I know they made bf all terrains and mud terrains in 16.5 but not sure anymore. I would also go with the Ford 16's. The Firestone tires are about 40$ more in 16.5 than 16. You could probably get 16" tires and rims for the same price as the 16.5 tires.

STA still makes 16.5 tires in few different tread patterns and sizes.

Yes - STA is a good resource. I will be buying some SuperTraxions from them in the future. Wasn't sure if op was looking for mudders or street/mild AT, etc. But yes, good vendor.

If your have your own tire machine and you don't know the story's about why not put a 16 on a 16.5 rim or the other way around best off let a shop do it for you.

I remember back in the 80-90's 16.5 tires where so hard to get now days they came back out with them

I don't believe anyone has suggested putting a 16 tire on a 16.5 wheel or vice versa.

Lots of yards have a flat price for regular steel rims I would start there. If you internet buy you might get an inflated "super interchange special rim" price I like to see them without tires when I buy so you do not get a rusty pitted rim Hope that helps you.

I appreciate your opinions ....the tires now are bias and have lots of tred left but dry rotten they just sound horrible when driving and feel not very smooth...i did take advice and search firestone transforce ht 8.75 x 16.5 i found them for $144 per tire that dont seam to bad..

While Ford 16s work just fine - it's worth being aware that Ford wheels are lug-centric and GM wheels are hub centric. It's not a big deal and it is proven to work just fine, but just wanted to point it out.

It's not a bad price at all. Certainly as good any other big name truck tire of that approx size will cost you and a lot less than many of them. That's what I'd buy (and have bought several sets, both 16s and 16.5s). Very good tire and they look right on a stocker.

So i think im going to attempt rattle can paint on rims and keeping stock sizes for now...until i have no choice but to go with ford rims...no hard feelings to those that do have ford rims ...

spring for the pc if you can swing it, you won't regret it! But, if you think you may change to 16s in the future someday, rattle can might be a good call.
