Howdy! I'm here to do some research on building my GMC Drag truck.

Welcome from Rapid City, Scott! I'm not much help on the drag racing thing, My GMC's are more "survivor" trucks. There should be plenty of information here to help you get this project on the track.

If the truck still has the V-6 in it you can dump it off here rather than scrap it!

Small world, I didn't expect the first reply to be from rapid city! It has an I6, runs and drives, but my father is getting the engine. What do you mean by "Survivor"?

In my case that means they are still being used as trucks and are near original, not really restored or hot rodded. Pic looks like it may be in Box Elder? I'm in the eastern part of Rapid Valley.

Yeah it sounds like your truck will be opposite of mine--LOL! Post more pics of your project and if you are tossing anything GMC related let me know. It's hard to tell from the pic but your truck looks like it may be a '66?

Very cool trucks you have there! It is a 66. This will be a long term project. I have a th400 being built right now. I'm getting ready to put together a 327 until I can afford a 454. When I start tearing it apart I'll keep you in mind. I'm going to leave the paint just like it is. You can faintly see the flames on the hood.

Thanks! The letters in the grill are kinda square, only in '66 and what I could see of them looked that way. Sounds like a good plan to get racing. Is Sturgis still running the eighth mile? I think Pierre's NHRA track is still doing well too? I can see the flames now that you point it out! I'd leave it like that too.

Yes Sturgis still runs the 1/8. I'll be running it there when it's ready. I'll move on to other tracks in the next couple years.

Lobes are kinda pointy. You need big fat wide ones

Oohhh, I got an idea. Build the oddball 348. A 400 with a 327 crank.

I don't have a 400! This is a large journal 327. That is the cam I just ripped out of it, not the one going in!
