Where to start on this blasted cab?

The bracing isn't hard to work around.

I used those panels from classic parts and they fit perfect. I was in shock at how well all the bends lined up. (The holes didn't line up at the bottom of the pillar but that's easy to work with)

They should be all you need for floor and inner rocker.

this part above is the inner rocker and outer floor that you need.
the picture of the outer rockers you bought are slip on rockers .
I would recommend getting a pair of full factory style outer rockers .
the slip on ones don't repair all the rust that your outer rockers have in your pictures.

I noticed on those floor pans you have, that the bottom part of the toe board/firewall is part of the replacement pan. On the actual truck, they are two separate panels, joined along a down-standing flange on each.

I cut away the toe-board portion from the pan, and created the downstanding flange along the front of the floor pan and installed it as per original.

Thanks guys! I'll reorder the right inner rockers and while Im at it. It looks like the inner wall where it meets the floor will need replacement too.



I assume this is the right part for that. Different suppliers call it different things

Is this the right order to make repairs?

1. First start by bracing if possible
2. Then hanging the doors
3. work on one side at a time
4. remove the rocker on one side
5. Fit the rocker patch panel while checking it against the closed door for gap check
6. Weld the rocker in place
7. On that same side cut out and replace the cab corner
8. Cut the front floor bad section out (only bad metal)

10. Weld in that part
11. Then weld in the front floor (with the aid of Brads article)
12. Make the cut on the rear floor section (using the tap screw and cut to fit method) and remove inner rocker as well.
13. Weld in the inner rocker
14. Weld in the rear floor
15. Then make fixes where ever I can with my fab skills where there are no patch panels for spots like where the upper floor meets the floor pan and the transmission hump

At a minimum you are going to need cab corners, outer rockers and inner rockers and outer floor. I would get the one piece outer floor with the inner rocker. Those are much easier to work with and get things straight IMO. Some of the back of the cab you will either need to fab yourself or find a donor cab to cut that section from.

I'm having trouble understanding how the inner and outer rocker assemble to the inner floor.

If I were to get the part above, would I not then need this inner rocker?

This is that outer floor/inner rocker panel welded in.


The outer rocker spot welds to this outer floor, overlaps it by about an inch.

Thanks Dracko! so for the repairs I wouldnt need the inner rocker if I use that full outer cab floor piece you show in the 1st pic? Just that part and the full rocker? Looking to get an order in soon and wanted to get it right.

Lower A pillars and kick panels too I'm guessing.

Finally getting back to things, and have a few part questions.
I might need a different thread on this but thought to start here.

What bolts do I need to mount the pillars back once I get the old rusted ones off? And if anyone has tips on removing/cutting off these bolts please mention.



Also the floor currently has a washer/disc to mount the cab to frame. The patch panel has a recessed spot but no disc. Is there a part I need to order, or is this disc able to be ground off at spot welds and reused?



And then there was this, the door hinge mounting plate came out from the inside of the rusted out lower inner cowl panel. What needs to happen to replace it?

Your level of rust looks more or less like mine at first glance. Following along with great interest!

You need a small sand blaster to clean up the rust that was underneath the metal you removed before installing the new metal,make sure to use weld through primer on the back sides and insides of the new metal before you weld it. I hope you did not strip the rest of the hood with paint stripper,the proper way would be to use a mud hog with 80 grit to buzz it off.

I replaced my rockers both inner and outer on both sides. I did one side at a time with the cab bolted on the frame. No bracing was added and nothing moved. I took a bunch of measurements of the door openings before i did the rockers. Might have got lucky? Now off the frame on a cart would be different.
