Correct 68 c10 rear view mirro
Hope someon can help..I just bought a rearview mirror off a board member and it got here...I was excited as its off a 68 like mine..well the holes dont line up with the two holes I have..so i'm guessing its not the right bracket.
Can you guys please post what my rear view mirror is suppose to look like so I can try to get the correct one and use the existing 2 holes in my truck Thank YOu very much. ! If you know where I can get one i'd appreciate it...as I have 2 now and neither are correct...(one is new aftermarket..have the arm and mirror..but not even close as to existing holes. |

Your cab might have an early 68 model using the 1967 rear view arm.
Can you post a picture of what you have plus what holes are in the cab for the arm? Keith |

Here is a pic of the mirror in my 68. The 67's had 2 holes at the top and 1 at the bottom. Hope this helps.

The one on my 68 GMC is the same as shawno72 with three mounting screws. It's stock original.

i thought rear view mirrors were technically an option on these trucks. maby there wasn't one from factory on yours and a PO added one.

Re: Correct 68 c10 rear view mirro
The mirror was an option through 69 becoming standard in 70. Most of the 69 and older have over the counter gm parts that could be for anything.

Re: Correct 68 c10 rear view mirro
Thats the problem. Many of these trucks didnt come with a "Factory Mirror" until 70. My 69 had some strange car mirror screwd to the roof and no other holes (From the original owner too)
Chances are someone put an aftermarket mirror in a truck that didnt have one, or when he pulled off the lot he realized there was no mirror walked back into the dealer and they put on whatever they had in thier parts dept that day. |

Re: Correct 68 c10 rear view mirro
I have a 68K20. No inside mirror or holes for one. the standard door mirrors were not used either. it does have those silly looking huge extended mirrors that required the origonal owner to bubba up some holes in a mint origonal door. I'm told they are factory accessory mirrors according to a very knowlegable 67 to 72 guru. I hate them and would not hesitate to install factory door mirrors and a inside cab mirror when the budget permits. My truck came off the california assembly line (fremont?) and was sold new on the 24th of april 1968 at Star Chevrolet in Sierra Vista Az. it has 13k origonal miles on it.
So some of the early 68's had 67 inside rear view mirrors? would they have come off the line that way? as well as being installed by dealers at any point in time? Does anybody have an Idea when the transition from 67 to 68 occurred. I'm curious because I'm a bit OCD about these details comming from the corvette side of the house. I would like to add that in the pontiac universe, the further away the plant was located from Detroit HQ the later upgrades and revisions were implemented so what might have been mandated and implemented emeadiatly in Detroit may have been implemented at a later date the further, (california ) away the assembly line was. many of my other components are date coded around december 67 to feb 68. Am I being too pedantic or anal about this. Should I double up on my meds? the reason I ask is two fold. I would like to install an interior cab rear view mirror on my truck and would like to install the correct one. I dont prefer the ones I have as shown in the pictures below. I like the other standard style mirrors that fasten to the doors using the pre existing factory door holes.....but..... they are vulnerable to damage when 4 wheeling in tight spots and I want niether to damage the repro mirrors nor the doors them selves. and believe me the scrub brush here in slower arizona can rip them right off. So my realistic and only remaining option is to install an interior cab rear view mirror. Last edited by mike16; 04-18-2016 at 12:58 AM. |
