Metric Steering Box..more questions...anyone adapted?
Hey guys I have searched and searched..found 30 answers but not sure which is correct..i know a while back someone posted a pic of the metric to flare adapters to connect the metric box out of an 86 C10 to the flared lines..i could not find it and I apologise..any info is appreciated and i know LEE manufacturing is out of business so I guess they are a no go..thanks in advance..I was also wondering for those who have done it do you have enough room...

Re: Metric Steering Box..more questions...anyone adapted?
I used a 89 gear box. I just changed the fitting in the back of the pump to the new style and used the lines from the 89 .

Re: Metric Steering Box..more questions...anyone adapted?
on my 93GMC with a 1975 454 I put in it
I cut the metal part of the high pressure lines from the box and the pump and used a union and 2 fittings by flaring the end of both of the high pressure lines after putting the fittings on to connect the two different lines together with the union on the high pressure line . I had both sets of hoses Oring from the box and flare from the 454 pump the low pressure line just uses a hose clamp on the hose so if you have the fitting from the box with the Oring that one is ez to do. or you can use google to find the adaptors your looking for . |

Re: Metric Steering Box..more questions...anyone adapted?
I tried the flare deal and had a heck of a time getten it to seal. I guess I'm not to good with flare fittings. But it's so easy to go to the junk yard and get a o-ring style pump fitting out of a core pump and screw it in to the old pump on the trk.

Re: Metric Steering Box..more questions...anyone adapted?
you are trying to use an 86 steering box with the earlier pump; am I correct. the easier way is to use the metric hoses and change it at the pump. if you have the 86 pump; where the pressure hose connects to the pump, there is a large nut. back that out with what is attached to it and put it in the earlier pump. it is pipe thread where that goes in and they are interchangeable
this seems to come up regulary. ron |

Re: Metric Steering Box..more questions...anyone adapted?
I got ya and thank you...I think id prefer to change to the inserts on the gear as all my hoses are new as is the old style pump(i may try and find a newer one with hoses etc also)...the borgeson parts look stock and wont take any room up at all...I really appreciate your input..sometimes at work here its hard to get a clear thought out..I now have 2 ways to go on this ...

for people that are reading this post--post what you have to work with or if you have nothing. It makes a big difference when trying to help.
