Seat belt bolts
Installing my new seat belts and the bolts don't want to tighten all the way down. They are tight but the head is still about 1/4" or better from the floor. Thought about this and recall seeing the nutcert on the body is tapered at the end. Is this correct? Should there be room for the seatbelt to move around?

Mine weren't "Locked down" per se.

Re: Seat belt bolts
yes they don't go all the way in, they stick out about 1/2 an inch, the black bolt is the wrong size that came with my kit from LMC Truck so I had to use the old bolts I got from a donor truck at the junkyard, notice how the threads stop before reaching the head of the bolt, that's factory

Re: Seat belt bolts
I am talking about the floor. The bolts are threaded all the way to the head but I can't tighten all the way down

Re: Seat belt bolts
I pulled my seat belts to add carpet in my truck that did not origintally have carpet. All the seat belts screws were down flush with metal frame. When I reinstalled bolts some were a real bear to get to go all the way flush so some of the middle ones I just left them up a little. I did use blue Loctite on threads though more for rust purposes but seat belts should be fine.

Re: Seat belt bolts
Can you take a picture? They should be pretty tight. Get a tap and make sure the threads are good. I had both bolts broken in mine that I had to drill out then tap. If you don't have that issue, you're ahead of the game.

Re: Seat belt bolts
When I had the interior floor and cab back on my 76 sprayed with Rhino Liner I was unable to properly thread the bolts back in. I took the truck to a mechanic and he told me that the thread was an "interference fit", which I had never heard of before. He tapped the threads and the bolts went in nicely. There was no Rhino Liner in the threads, so that was not the issue.
I would consult others about using some thread cutting oil and a tap, since I am not sure what is at the end of that nut plate. I always do this on all rusty bolts I remove, since I don't have a set of thread chasers. I got a couple cheap tap and die sets from Harbor Freight and I use them all the time. My thread cutting oil came from Home Depot (Oatey brand) and I have been using the same bottle for the past 20 years. |

Re: Seat belt bolts
Seat belt bolts in the floor are metric (M12 thread).

Re: Seat belt bolts
I have the bolts. Was just going to add washers. But will go buy a tap to chase the threads.
