Roll bar mounting

After years of trying to find a roll bar for my blazer I finally got one. Obviously after cleaning it up I'll be installing it. It's the type that the rear down tubes mount right behind the wheel well. In fact the very end of the mounting plate is turned up slightly to match the angle of the wheel well. I plan to use the mounting plates as templates to drill the holes in the bed and a backing plate. One thing I was unsure of though is how to trim the carpet around the newly installed bar in a way that looks neat? My truck is very original and nice and I don't want it to look like a hack job with fraying carpet all around. Other than having the edges bound (p.i.a.) does anyone have any ideas or know what a dealer install with this type of set up looked like? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: Roll bar mounting

My blazer didnt have carpet in it when I bought it, it had the vinyl mat. Its got carpet in it now. When I took the roll bat out to do some work on it, the mat just had holes in it to match the bolt pattern of the bar mount. I would think they did the same for the carpet..

Huh...I hadn't considered going right over the carpet. Can anyone confirm this is the way to go? Anyone with a picture of how theirs mounts would be really appreciated.

Re: Roll bar mounting

I installed mine right over the carpet. Looks good and know worries of the carpet fraying. Try to get a pic for you.

Re: Roll bar mounting

I put mine in on top of the carpet. Just use a cheapo soldering iron to make the holes so the carpet does not fray.

Re: Roll bar mounting

Yours sounds like maybe a Smitty built by your description of how it mounts behind the wheel wells. I like that style but haven't found one yet. May just have to get one made up.

Re: Roll bar mounting

I just had it sandblasted and I primed it. Hopefully this weekend I'll get some paint on it. I was going to powder coat it but it's probably going to be covered anyway so I figured I'd save some money and just spray it. When its installed I'll post some pictures. Thanks to those who replied and posted pics, that was a big help.
