pertronix
Just installed pertronix in my 53 235. Now what do I set the plugs at and the timing at? I heard the plugs should be set at 40-60. My timing mark is a dot so how far do I set the timing, about 1/2 inch BTDC? Randy

A lot of guys on the HAMB run them with their older engines but I've never seen mention of changing plug gap or timing.
The main thing is you don't worry about your points going out of adjustment soon after you install them and the engine going out of tune. Plus usually the advantage of easier starts and smoother performance. One thing in that setup's favor is you can carry a set of points, condenser and screwdriver in the glove box and always swap them back in in a few minutes if the unit fails on the road. That might mean ten minutes on the side of the road and running again rather than a tow job. On the fine tuning you might contact the tech guys for Pertronix for their input rather going by what the spit and whittle club down on the corner throws out.

Thanks guys, pertronix tech. said .005 for the gap but no input on timing. So right now I am at about 5 deg BTDC and going to leave it at that. Randy
