700r4 to TH350 Swap on 4x4
I have a 1990 k1500 gmc, with a 700r4 (3rd one now). Instead if building a 700r4 I'd rather go with a TH350 because of the stregnth and this truck is much just a farm truck. Plus I have a 350-203 setup so ain't gotta buy one. Anyway what's needed to swap this? I know the crossmember will need moved, so I'm ok with that. I also know the TH350 has about 1" sticking past the end if the housing, and the 700r4 has about 3"... anything needed swapped or anything? Thanks ya'll!!

Re: 700r4 to TH350 Swap on 4x4
The 203 is the wrong side drop for that truck btw.The 88-98 trucks used a drivers side drop t case while the 87 back trucks used a passenger side drop. You might wanna look in to a adapter kit to use the stock t case in the truck or you can use any ford t case with a adapter kit.But its probably cheaper to rebuild that 4l60e you got in it now.

Re: 700r4 to TH350 Swap on 4x4
Thanks Andrew it has the 700r4 in It now, but the cheapest I found to rebuild the 700r4 was about 750 bucks, and since I done got the TH350 I figured it'd be cheaper. Maybe someone can chime in, but I've heard if you get a car 2wd trans, you can cut off part of the output shaft and just use the stock adapter and transfer case, which I do plan on using. Anyone have info on this?
