Yet another 4wd conversion thread
Hey guys,
I had read though a ton of stuff. I just want to make sure before I go and start looking for parts. I know that I will need a front crossmember and all of the parts attached to it, and that I can keep the rear leaf, and flip it, or convert it, again with rwd truck parts. I have a couple of questions: There is a front crossmember with drum on it, will my disc swap straight over? I have read that it is possible to use the 73-87 parts for both the front and the rear. This is what I need cleared up, as there is a full 1/2ton 2wd roller available for 250 pretty close to me, but it's a 74. I'll go pick this up if it will work. Thanks for the help! |

Re: Yet another 4wd conversion thread
I know a guy that used a 77 1/2 ton front end. The only problem he had was the engine mount bracket were to tall by about 1 1/2 inches

Re: Yet another 4wd conversion thread
74 thru 87 are your best swap options, whole cross member disk hub to hub. Get the power steering box and the brake booster with prop valve. If you get a drum set up and you want disk brakes your not going to be able to use any of the 4x4 parts...What year trucks are you working with.? Going with 5 lugs? Best to get a donor truck with as many usable parts as possible, engine, trans, cross members etc. Saves time and money in the long run.
