Motor mount issues

I'm putting a 6.0/4L80E into my 77 C10 2wd. I bought a set of the aluminum adapter plates off eBay that use the original clamshells. I've had a heck of a time with these things, they didn't come with instructions so I installed them backwards the 1st time. I have them installed the correct way now and have the clamshells bolted to them. The issue I'm having now is that I can only get one bolt hole to line up. Right now the drivers side is lined up and the bolt is in it but not tightened up. The passenger side still needs to come down and towards the center of the truck about 1/2" to 5/8".

I've fought with thing for about 4 hours now. Does anyone have any helpful advice? I'm considering throwing these plates in the trash and ordering Dirty Dingo's or Tejas.

If it will help, I'll try to snap some pictures tonight and post them tomorrow.

Like this. The thickness of the aluminum is causing the issue. I ended up milling them down to 1/4 " thick. All is good now

Yeah, I guess you could say like that. I'm not going through the trouble and expense of having these milled. I'll order some of the others.

Question is Dirty Dingo sliders or Tejas?

Re: Motor mount issues

65standard I assume that is after you had them milled down as that looks like a good fit.
I know there is some "slop" in all the parts including the rubber I am surprised they are not working. Just my thoughts.

I'm pretty surprised too. I'm just at my wits end with them and want to be done with this part and move on.

Re: Motor mount issues

Have you tried loosening up the motor mounts on the stands, and then getting the through bolt in? Then you could tighten them back down, or maybe slot the holes a little in the stands to give you some wiggle room.

I haven't tried that, but I will. I guess my main concern is that I don't want to "force it" to fit if that makes any sense. I will give that a try tonight. Thanks.

I loosened the entire frame stand on one side, and then removed the top set of bolts on the other, and then was able to drop the motor down and line everything up. I used a screwdriver to line up the holes and get the bolts started. Worked great.

Re: Motor mount issues

There are two sets of holes in the frame to accommodate a 6cyl. or V8. Try moving your frame mount to another set of holes. I had to do this with my LS/250 swap

Re: Motor mount issues

FWIW, I don't have the clamshell mounts on this one BUT; everytime I put mine in, I had to start one bolt on either side while the engine still had its weight on the cherrypicker. Then I'd use those bolts and a pry bar to guide the engine in as it was lowered, starting any other bolts wherever it lined up best along the way. Without doing that, mine wants to wander to one side and make getting the other bolts in very tough.

Re: Motor mount issues

I feel your pain, I wrestled with mine for two evenings in a row to get my dirty dingo ones to line up. I wanted to burn the truck lol because I thought mounting it was gonna be the easy part! Boy was I wrong ha. I ended up having to slot my stand so it would allow bolts to start on both sides. Mine was the other style mounts though. Don't feel bad though your not the only one.
