Re: 72 swb stepside wheel tire question
I'm running 18x9.5(5.25" bs) with 285/40/18s on all four corners. I've noticed the fronts rub the front of the stock control arms at full lock, but it's not too bad. The rears rub the inner bedside just slightly when in heavy turns. A sway bar would fix this. My truck is lowered 4.5/6.75.

Re: 72 swb stepside wheel tire question
I used to have 17x8 255/50/17 front 17x9.5 275/55/17 rear with different drops.
4.5/6.75 drop This was a 3.5/5 drop. 4.5/5.75 in these.

Re: 72 swb stepside wheel tire question
I have a 275 55 17 on the rear of my '69. I used a 17x9 wheel with zero offset (5" backspace) and the wider 71-72 rear axle. As mentioned above, you could probably go to 285 but 295 would be REALLY tight. Some trucks the axle is more centered than others as well so either an adjustable pan hard bar or shifting the bed on the frame might be required to get even clearance all around.
I'm not a fan of really wide tires in the front and I went with 235 55 17 on 17x8 wheel and 4.5" backspace (zero offset again). Can't post pics from my iPad but will add one later if I can remember, LOL.
