Re: E brake
I have never heard of that happening! Weak metal? Badly rusted? (I have a hard time believing anything you own is going to be rusted).

![]() Now I got bored today and started looking on the net for a fix to the brake but didn't find anything, but I did find this cool idea. Parking brake switch tied to the brake light wire in the dash per member's AirSpeed and Bruce88. For some reason they closed the thread that AirSpeed had on it. I have made the bracket and tested it on the broke assembly. I will mount it to the new one and run the wire to the brake switch warning light wire under the dash. Ground it and it will be done! Nice little addition for the truck! Thanks to AirSpeed and Bruce88! ![]() ![]() Here is Airspeed's thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=425922 Here is Bruce88 thread. it's on page 22 of the thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=4264460

Re: E brake
Sorry to see what happened, but the light switch is a way cool idea. As chance would have it, I'm making a trip out to the pick apart tomorrow. That little switch is on most of the newer vehicles, and an easy add on.

Nope it was the emergency brake also not the regular brake pedal. I was just pulling it out of the garage to do some cleaning up. ![]()

Re: E brake
On my '71 GMC, the internal spring that pulls the pedal up when you pull the release tab doesn't come up all the way. I have to put a boot tip under the pedal while pulling the release and nudge it up some more. Any fix to that?
On the '68 C/10, the parking brake doesn't hold. I figure that's about cable stretch, and slack can be taken up. Mostly I leave the vehicles in gear when off. Or on the Jimmy, I use a chock parking on the slope.

I'm fixing to go pick up a used assembly form a local truck club member. We did some part trading. I'll have it mocked up tonight and hopefully get it blasted at work Tuesday and painted and have it installed by next weekend. ![]()

Re: E brake
I just went and picked up another assembly. The spring you are talking about isn't replaceable that I can see. It's sandwiched between both sides of the bracket with a rivet. You could drill it out I guess and replace it. The spring on the side is for the handle only. These are some pictures of the broke one and the one I just picked up. I got the brake light switch mocked up and drilled the holes. Drilled the holes for the Lokar pedal cover and have it in primer. ![]()

Re: E brake
Installed and working like it was from the factory!
With key on the dash light is on anytime the E brake is engaged. It will cut off as soon as the E brake handle is pulled! With the key off it want light up either. ![]()

Re: E brake
My truck had that from the OO but they had added an extra light to the dash. Much easier to just tie it into the brown brake warning light wire!

Re: E brake
My fix was easy. I pulled the AC nozzle and got a good angle to hit with WD40, then blasted the action -- pumping a few times. It started to come right back on pulling the release toggle.
I know what a hassle those internal springs can be. I've had to cannibalize several Blazer liftgate latch-catches to get a good one, but have to use a bolt-and-nut axis [where the factory had a flush-fitting rivet] and then saw a keyhole in the hatch fibreglas to get it back in.
